The Armadillos had two good showings last week. They notched two district wins, defeating Hamilton and Coleman.

On Tuesday, Jan. 11, the Dillos hosted Hamilton. The Bulldogs had previously defeated the Armadillos in the Hamilton tournament earlier this year. Hamilton jumped out to a first quarter lead of 17-8, with the aid of four 3-pointers. In the second quarter the tables reversed with the Dillos outscoring Hamilton 18-7. The Dillos took a two-point lead into the half. The second half was pretty even and the dillos came out on top 48-45. Luke Cox led the Dillos this game with 17 points and also chipped in four steals. Other notables and scorers for the Dillos were Tucker Cromer with 8 points, Clayton Perry with 7 points, 4 steals and 4 assists. Zack Davis with 7 points, Ryan Panell with 7 also and Jose Vega with 2 points.

On Friday, Jan. 14 the Dillos traveled to Coleman. Colemna always gives us fits, especially when we play there. After one quarter of play, the score was tied 10-10. In the second quarter the Dillos opened up the lead outscoring Coleman 15-6. The dillos led at the half 25-16. In the third, Coleman cut into the lead by two points, outscoring the dillos 14-12. The fourth quarter was scoring-fest for both teams. Coleman outscored the dillos 24-21 in the fourth. The dillos won the game 58-54. The Dillos took a 13-15 point lead two or three times during the course of the game but Coleman kept clawing their way back into it. With about 2:45 left in the game the Dillos had a 14-point lead. Coleman hit 3 pointers on three consecutives trips down the floor. One of them was a good 8 feet outside the line and another one banked in. Never the less, they went in. Coleman hit a total of 5 three pointers in the fourth quarter. On their final three pointer of the game, Coleman cut the lead to 54-57. with a few seconds left, they had to foul J.T. Mathis and he went to the line. J.T. hit one of two of his free throws and the Dillos took the lead 58-54. A last ditch effort by Coleman came up short and that was the final. Everyone played well and contributed to our win but I have to mention that Tucker Cromer had a great game scoring 28 points and 15 rebounds. Others scoring for the Dillos: J.T. Mathis - 7, Zack Davis - 6, Luke Cox - 5 and Clayton Perry, Ryan Pannell and Jose Vega had 4.

The Armadillos are now 3-2 in District play. They are currently in 4th place behind Hico (5-0), Dublin (4-1), and Comanche (4-1). The Dillos will have traveled to Hico when this comes out and will host Comanche on Jan. 21.
