The San Saba Lady Dillos captured two wins last week

downing Hamilton and Coleman to end the first half of play

in District with a 4-3 record. We’re currently in fourth, a game behind Comanche for third. We’ve got seven games left so we’ll "keep on keep’n on" and see how the smoke clears. We’ve got some tough games on the road in the second half so we’ll need to be ready every night and hopefully steal a few on the road. The last two games we’ve had really slow starts but two great third quarters have propelled us to the wins. We’ve haven’t "put it all together" for four quarters all year so maybe we’re saving this for the second half of District play.

Last Tuesday we beat the Lady Bulldogs from Hamilton by a score of 62-46. We were only up one after one quarter of play, 12-11 but we found a bit of a groove and took a 29-22 lead in at halftime. We had a nice third quarter scoring 16 points and were up twelve after three quarters of play. A 17 point fourth quarter iced the victory and we got a nice home win. Danessa Vasquez had a big night from the outside netting 20 points and hitting six three pointers. Haylee Oliver added 22 points as well while Jaena Edwards chipped in 10 to hit double digits. This was a nice team win by our girls and evened our District record at 3-3.

Last Friday we traveled to Coleman and pretty much sleepwalked through the first half of play. We looked very lethargic and didn’t play with much intensity or enthusiasm. After a meeting of the minds we came out with a renewed sense of urgency and took a ten point lead late in the third stanza at 30-20. Early in the fourth we got the lead up to fourteen at one time, 34-20 and came home with a nice road win. We won’t be able to beat the big dogs of District with a first half like last Friday but if we play with the same intensity that was shown during the second half of Coleman then we’ll make a run at people. We’re still looking for consistency throughout the game. We play well in spurts but it will take four quarters on both offense and defense for us to pull out some tough games in the future. Against Coleman, Haylee Oliver lead all scorers with 14 while Tarah Crosby chipped in 8 followed by Danessa Vasquez with 7. Johna Reavis and Karlee Cromer both scored 5 and Jaena Edwards and Ashley Pulatie contributed 3 points as well.

There’s seven games of basketball left and some tough road games await us for the second half of District. We’ll most likely need a bit of help down the road which isn’t a good feeling to have but like I told the girls, "all we can do is show up and play with heart and intensity and EFFORT and let the chips fall where they may." In my opinion, Bangs pretty much has first sewn up eventhough anything can happen. We’re two games back of Hico in the loss column and one back of Comanche in the loss column. We will have played Hico when the paper comes out and then catch Comanche at home on Friday which could be a pivotal game for us and our season. Don’t

count us out yet, we still need all Lady Dillo Fans to help us out.

My SHOUTOUT this week goes to our Middle School Coaches- Mickey Rundell and Jonathan Thiebaud- I appreciate all you do for our girls’ basketball program and for the work that you do with our middle school programs.
