The San Saba Ladies Golf Association met January 13, 2011 for the monthly business meeting. The meeting was called to order by the President, Anita Miles, and opened with prayer led by Jo Anne Hardy. The Secretary, Jo Anne Hardy, read the minutes and they were approved as read. The Treasurer, Bobbie Churchill, gave the financial report. The Traveling 4-Ball Chair, Sandee Hartley, announced that the annual business meeting of the organization would be in Lampasas, Texas on January 24, 2011 and any member may attend but only the President and Chair may vote. After the meeting, weather permitting, they will play golf. The President, Anita Miles, expressed her great appreciation of the gift certificate given to her by the membership from Mbellishments. She got a Nativity Scene, which she said would always remind her of these golf ladies and their beautiful bond of love and friendship. Anita further added, that in the future she would prefer to forgo the annual gift to the President, as the organization is small in number and the job has become less demanding.
The ladies were thrilled to have had a new member visit, Linda Ragsdale who plans to take up golf and become an active member. She joined the association and played games with the ladies and fit right in. We are always encouraging other ladies to give it a try. We just play golf or games and do lunch and have fun! What could be better than that?
Present for the meeting were: Bobbie Churchill, Jo Anne Hardy, Dorothy Sterner, Sandee Hartley, Anita Miles, and new member, Linda Ragsdale.
January 6, 2011 Dorothy Sterner, Jo Anne Hardy, Hattie Rogers, Jo Ann Snow, and Sandee Hartley had the faith and after a card game went to the links to enjoy a beautiful Texas day for golf. They played the T and F holes less half the handicap and there was a three way tie for first between Dorothy Sterner, Jo Ann Snow, and Sandee Hartley. Sandee also scored the Low Gross and Low Net for the day and won the penny pot. The ladies now put in a penny for each putt and the low putter of the day wins the pot.
December 30, 2010 five ladies, Sandee Hartley, Hattie Rogers, Dorothy Sterner, Jo Ann Snow, and Anita Miles enjoyed a beautiful day of golf. Only in Texas can you make such a statement the middle of the winter. They played a game of Low Gross, Low Net, and Low Putts. Hattie was the big winner as she not only scored the Low Net for the day but also Low Putts. Sandee scored the Low Gross and chipped in to win the chip in pot. Pat Ribb came out for the great weather and had lunch with the ladies.
Hattie’s husband, George Rogers, is in the Brownwood Hospital with pneumonia and our prayers are with this couple. The latest report is that he is improving steadily. George and Hattie are long time golfers and supporters of the San Saba River Golf Course and greatly loved!
So it’s cold and rainy and bleak for golfers but we need the rain and ‘tomorrow is another day’, in the words of Scarlet O’Hara. So let it rain, and let the grass grow, and bless and keep us in His hands so that we may keep on "swinging!"
