The Board of Trustees of the San Saba ISD met for a Special meeting at 4:00 p.m. on January 12th in the Central Administration Office.
The following agenda was discussed:
1. Presentation by Government Capital regarding building projects.
2. Discussed building and bond options.
The meeting was adjourned and the Board enjoyed a meal from SSISD Central office staff in recognition of School Board Month.
Board President, Darrin Barker, called the regular meeting of the San Saba ISD to order at 6:10 p.m., welcomed everyone and established a Quorum present. Board member, Kevin Shahan, gave the invocation followed by everyone joining for the pledges to the American and Texas flags.
Presentations to Board members were:
a. Elementary students signed an appreciation card that is in the Central Administration Office foyer.
b. Middle School Principal, Vicki Key, gave a large school calendar with events marked till the end of the school year.
c. High School Principal, Woody Martin, presented a video that high school students made Thanking School Board Members from elementary, middle and high schools. A personal thank you was to Mom or Dad from children of School Board members.
Superintendent Leigh Ann Glaze reported on the following:
A. The next School Board meeting will be Monday, February 14th at 6 p.m.
B. A select number of students will attend the Texas School House Event in Austin on Jan. 31st.
C. Early dismissal will be Friday, January 14th for the Stock Show.
D. There have been multiple sales for unused items and there are some items left that are now in a storage building. In February an auction in Llano has agreed to take all the stuff that’s left in one lot and sell to highest bidder.
E. Team building/Board training opportunities will be Feb. 9th.
F. Next week a committee will meet for a tax incentive plan.
G. January 20th will be Snapshot day.
H. There’s a need for a Budget workshop to go over the budget to see where 10% can be taken off if the State School officials mandates a cut back, and $403,000.00 would have to be taken off.
I. A short report about the Lamar Academy was given, and registration has been sent for a meeting there in April.
J. Discussed the accountability rating.
The following consent agenda was approved.
1. The regular meeting minutes for December 15th.
2. Amendments to 2010-2011 budget.
3. Payment of bills presented to the Board.
4. Financial report.
Assistant Superintendent, Michael Bohensky gave a report on the CSOPE district meeting that SSISD will host on Thursday, January 20th at the Elementary building, with assessment’s being discussed and also campus benchmarking.
Elementary Principal, Kay Shackleford, reported 304 students, plus 15 Headstart with 96.62 % attendance rate; discussed the January 20th meeting; the tutorials for 3rd & 4th grades showed that everyone can improve; instruction techniques are being targeted; results for K-2 middle of the year testing are completed; an opportunity for an Academic Disneyland on March 5th at University of Texas is being planned; preparing students for tests.
Middle School Principal, Vicki Key, reported 194 students and an attendance rate of 96.95%; discussed testing and tutorials; the fund-raiser on Saturday, January 8th with a basketball tournament; the recent Band concert was enjoyed.
High School Principal, Woody Martin, reported 197 students and an attendance rate of 96.69%; Jan. 25th-26th going to conference for training; discussed all events, benchmarks, TAKS (Texas Assessement of Knowledge and Skills), and participation in UIL which will have 103 participation; need a debate team for UIL which hopefully will be included next year.
Jeff Pannell, Athletic Director, reported on All West Texas football honors; the MS Basketball Tournament January 8th; gave statistics of boys & girls basketball and schedule; January 20th SSISD will host a powerlifting meet; January 24th softball practise begins; January 31st baseball practise begins; February 1st track starts; Tennis starts January 27th; all game schedules are on website, and of course are subject to change.
Brian Sours, band director reported 70 students (7th - 12th) signed up for Solo & Ensemble UIL at HPU-Brownwood on Saturday February 5th - this is a record number; many band students are voluntarily practicing after school everyday at the band hall; there are 153 students in the band program 5th grade through 12th grade; The Golden Armadillo Marching Band earned a division 1 superior rating this year; gave ratings for the Region Band results.
The following reports and information was presented: 2009-2010 Performance Report; AEIS; First, Dangerous and Harmful Incidents; Annual Review of Investments; PBMAS and AMAO. The reports showed a comparison from 2008,2009 and 2010. Information is available on the website.
President Darrin Barker adjourned the meeting, announcing a short break before an Executive Session. During the short Executive Meeting the Board reviewed Superintendent Leigh Ann Glaze's contract and extended it for 3 years.
