We have had no rainfall this past week, just cool, cloudy days and finally some sunshine today. We wound up the year of 2010 with 31.35 inches of rain in all.

There were only three members for the Busy Bee quilting last Tuesday due to the cold weather. Fay and Gloria Lusty and Irene Hammett got together and finished a quilt for the VFD and put in one for Gloria. They enjoyed working in their new quarters in the James Hammett building.

There were only eight present for the community meeting last Saturday night. Vice-president, Carroll Teague, presided over the meeting due to the absence of the president, Jerald Weatherman. All officers were re-elected for one more year by acclamation. They are as follows, President; Jerald Weatherman, Vice president; Carroll Teague, Secretary Treasurer; Bobby Deeds. I was appointed again as the community reporter. There will be no more hostess committees, those who attend are asked to bring finger foods. A three person committee will be selected to make up the working committees for the Picnic in May. There will be a gospel singing in March, July and October with an ice cream supper in conjunction with the July singing.

We received a call Sunday night that my nephew, Lowell Long, of Brownwood, had passed away. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:00 AM at the Heartland Funeral Home in Early with the burial at the Cox Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday night from 6 to 8. Memorials may be made to the Cox Cemetery or to the cancer society.
