Teaching

Traveling can be fun. It can be tiring. And, you can learn lessons as you travel.

On our way to Russia we left Atlanta for New York and a Jewish family of eight came on board and six of them were children. I knew they were Jewish because of the way they were dressed.

While traveling the father got out a book and began to teach one of his sons from the book. I’m not sure what was in the book but it was something the father wanted his son to learn.

Years ago Moses told the Israelites to teach their children. Moses told the people to love the Lord with all of their heart, soul and might. (Deut. 6:5) He then stated, "And these words, which I command you today shall be on your heart; and you shall teach them diligently to your sons and talk with them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up." (Deut. 6:6-7) I’m sure if Moses had known about airplanes he would have included them also.

Our world today needs to love God with all of our being. We must practice this in our lives. By the same token we must teach our children. There are many teachable moments we have when we can instruct children in the way they are to go. It does not have to be in Sunday school or worship services but whenever the moment presents itself. If we fail to teach our children we will have a generation who cares nothing about God. Take the time, whenever it appears to teach.

There are many who are teaching today who do not have any values. They teach in a way that leads people away from God. Satan uses whatever devices he can to lure people away from God and into sin. We must not give him a foothold. We must defeat him at every turn so God will be glorified in our lives and in the lives of our children.

It is especially important to teach them scriptures. When Satan tempted Jesus, He was able to withstand him by saying, "It is written…" Let’s do the same.
