Lady Dillo Basketball Report
Thursday, January 13, 2011 • Posted January 13, 2011

The San Saba Lady Dillos captured a district road win last Tuesday in Dublin and then suffered a tough home loss to a very talented Bangs team. At this point in the first round of district play we’re currently 2-3 with games left with Hamilton and Coleman. We will have played Hamilton here on Tuesday and then travel to Coleman to end the first round of District play.

Last Tuesday we defeated Dublin by a score of 49-27.

We had a 13-6 lead after one quarter of play and upped that lead to 25-15 at halftime. We outscored the Lady Lions by ten in the third stanza to take a commanding 39-19 lead after three quarters of play. We played really well and had a great game on DEFENSE. Haylee Oliver had a monster night scoring and securing rebounds leading us in these categories with 34 and 12 respectively. Danessa Vasquez also snared 5 rebounds and Tarah Crosby lead us in the assist department with 4. Haylee and Ashley Pulatie also had 3 steals each. Jaeana Edwards, Karlee Cromer and Johna Reavis did a nice job defending the Dublin posts. Joannah Crosby also had a big night nabbing several

offensive rebounds.

I figured our game with Bangs was going to be a war and it was. Bangs has a very talented team. They are very athletic and Coach Beck does a great job with them.

We had a good first half taking a 28-25 lead in at halftime. The third quarter was when the "wheels fell off the wagon." Bangs outscored us 17-2 in this stanza and never looked back. We cut the lead to single digits in the fourth quarter but we dug ourselves too deep a hole in the third quarter. Bangs really hurt us rebounding and on second chance points. We must do a better job of blocking out if we hope to beat them in the second round. Tarah Crosby lead us in scoring with 13 points followed by Danessa Vasquez with 11 and Haylee Oliver with 10. Karlee Cromer had a big game rebounding and playing physical. Jaena Edwards also lead us in the rebounding department as well. Hopefully, we’ll regroup and keep on fighting. Right now we just need to take one game at a time and see what happens. We need to get some wins and maybe get a little help down the road to get back in the race.

I don’t normally do this but I’m sending out a PLEA, NEW YEARS RESOLUTION, whatever you or I want to call it and I’m talking to MYSELF- COACH TAYLOR FIRST. WE (Coach Taylor and FANS) need to CHILL OUT with the referees. Me getting mad and getting technicals does nothing to help our LADY DILLOS and when you guys as FANS constantly stay on them then we’re not going to get any help as far as calls. I know it seems like we get the short end of the stick when it comes to officials but they are what they are. We didn’t get calls against Bangs and the call on Jaena was a bad call but we also missed several blockouts, didn’t take care of the ball to go along with some questionable calls. I’m not saying you can’t disagree at times because you are paying money to go to the game but maybe let’s tone it down a bit with me being the guy who needs to do it first. I will also say this, Officiating is a thankless job. Those guys are never going to get things right all the time, they are human and will make mistakes and one side of the gym will be happy and the other side mad. I will also ask, " How many of you have ever officiated a basketball game?" It’s not as easy as it looks. I have first hand knowledge as we as coaches called our middle school tourney this past weekend and lo and behold we didn’t please all of the opposing fans as well. Just know that calls will be missed and maybe we could show the guys and gals in stripes some DILLO LOVE!!!!

One last thing- MY SHOUTOUT this week goes to my family- Tracie, Hallie and Mason- I love you guys and

thanks for letting me coach a sport that I truly love and for putting up with me when I act like a crazy person on the sidelines at times. I’ve got the greatest children and the #1 wife in all of North America. MOE- PHIL 4:13
