Armadillo Basketball Report
Thursday, January 6, 2011 • Posted January 6, 2011

Over the Christmas break, the Armadillos played a couple of games. On Dec. 28, the Dillos hosted Comfort. San Saba score by quarter: 13, 10, 24, 11. Comfort score by quarter: 3 , 8, 10, 17. The Dillos took a first quarter lead of 13-3 and never relinquished the lead. The final score: San Saba 58, Comfort 38. I was very pleased with the way we came out and played. You never really know what to expect after you have been off for 8 days for the Christmas break. Clayton Perry had a great game for us scoring 17 pts and was 3 of 5 from three-point land. Others scoring for the Dillos: Tucker Cromer 15, Luke Cox 12, Jose Vega 8, Ryan Pannell 4, and Zack Davis 4.

On Dec. 31, the Early Longhorns came to town to open up District play for the boys. The Armadillos go to 1-0 in District play, defeating the Longhorn 53-45. It was a tight game in the first half. The Dillos led 15-9 at the end of the first quarter. Foul trouble hurt us a bit in the second quarter with two of our starters sitting out most of the second quarter. Dillos led at the half, 27-24. At the end of the third quarter the Dillos led 44-31. The Longhorns made a run on us but we held them off and won the game 53-45. I was proud of how our team handled the physical play that Early played. We got in a little bit of foul trouble in the second quarter and that hurt us a little, but our bench came in and did a good job. Leading scorer for the Dillos was Tucker Cromer, who also had a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds. I believe this is Tucker’s third game having a double-double. Others scoring for the Dillos: J.T. Mathis 11, Zack Davis 7, Clayton Perry 6, Tanner Hawkins 4, Luke Cox 3, Ryan Pannell 2, and Jose Vega 2.

When this comes out, we will have played Dublin on Jan. 4, and we will host Bangs on Jan. 7.
