January is the month of new beginnings and resolutions. Many of us make resolutions to be kinder and more thankful for what we have been provided and many make resolutions to work harder. One of my resolutions was to improve on recognizing the extra efforts of people in our school and our community. I would like to begin keeping my resolution by honoring a group of people who dedicate a great deal of their time to the students of San Saba ISD. These folks are our school board members: Darrin Barker-President, Marcie Maxcey – Vice President, Kim Kirk – Secretary, Michael Deans, Susie Nettleship, Kevin Shahan, and Bob Whitten. January is also School Board Recognition Month. Local school boards work tirelessly and dedicate hundreds of hours to lead our students to success. Setting aside time in January is one small way to celebrate their service to our community and say thanks for caring so much about the future of every child enrolled in our schools.

School board members shoulder critical responsibilities as advocates for our children. They face difficult challenges and make hard decisions with the overall goal of promoting student achievement. Our SSISD board members will be honored by our staff and students at the regularly scheduled board meeting on January 12, 2011, but please take the time to visit with the members you have elected and thank them for their service.

Please visit www.san-saba.net to view events and find information you need to know about SSISD. As well, don’t forget to sign up for the "alerts" available from the website, and don’t miss the opportunity to sign up for the Parent Portal giving parents access to grades and attendance. Parents, let us know how we can help you the first day of school all the way until the last day of school!!
