January 3, 2011 will bring about the beginning of the second semester of the 2010-2011 school year. The second semester will go very quickly so I wanted to provide you with some important dates so that you can mark the calendar now. The spring semester is filled with Optional Flexible Days for high school and middle school students. The preliminary evaluation of this new program is promising as we are seeing increased attendance at the middle school and high school campuses by our students and many students were successful on their recent benchmarks due partially to this program. The OFYP dates that parents of students in grades 5 - 12 need to make note of are 2/11, 2/18, 2/25, 4/8, 4/15, and 4/22. These dates are strategically placed to provide students with the maximum tutoring opportunities before the spring TAKS tests. State TAKS Assessment dates are 3/1-3/4, 3/23, 4/4, 4/5, 4/7, 4/26, 4/27, 4/28, 4/29 and 5/17. As well, the elementary school will be conducting their middle of the year (MOY) testing for the Texas Primary Reading Inventory (TPRI) in January. The high school students will also be field testing the new end of course exams that will be replacing the TAKS test in the very near future. Soon high school students will have to pass a series of tests in each subject. Other important dates that you need to mark include an early release date on 1/13, school holiday on 1/14 and spring break on 3/14 – 3/18.
