Gerald Adams was a New Year’s Baby January 1, 1930 and is continuing his celebration January 1, 2011. Gerald was a 1949 graduate of Richland Springs High School where he spent most of his time as an all district guard, and first place winning poultry judge. Following graduation he served in the navy as a gunner during the Korean conflict and later graduated from Sam Houston State University with a degree in vocational agriculture. He spent several years sharing his love of agriculture with his students, and judging FFA competitions as well as writing as a sports reporter for a local paper in Center Point. He married Myra Beth Wilson, his wife of 56 years, and they had two children. With the arrival of his children he decided to leave education and began working as a miller for Uncle Ben’s Rice. He retired from Uncle Ben’s in 1995 after over 30 years and has spent the last several years travelling, managing various properties, and keeping up with his grandchildren.
