The San Saba Lady Dillos had a great week as they captured the Championship at the Mason Tournament and avenged an earlier loss downing Goldthwaite on their home floor. We defeated Goldthwaite 48-38. This was a "knockdown, dragout" part 2. This game was like a district ballgame. There were two really good teams competing and we had a big third quarter that propelled us to the win. I really believe that Goldthwaite will represent Region 2 at the State Tournament. Our team played really hard and competed which is all a coach can ask for. We made plays down the stretch and got some big defensive stops.
This past weekend we traveled to Mason for a round robin type of format. We played some new faces and got some momentum heading into big district games for the week. On Thursday we defeated Brady 55-26. Our pressure got to the Lady Bulldogs and we had a commanding lead after one quarter of play. Haylee lead us in scoring with 21 points. Jaeana Edwards and Johna Reavis played big inside for us and Tarah Crosby got some nice assists throughout the game. On Friday we played Sonora and won 53-45. We jumped on them early and had a 20-9 lead after one period of play. Our guards did a nice job of hounding their guards. The pressure was applied by Nessa Vasquez, Tarah and Jo Crosby, Alexa Maxcey, Ashley Pulatie andKarlee Cromer. We pushed the lead to 17 in the third but give Sonora credit as they wouldn’t go away. They cut the lead to 8 in the fourth quarter but we were able to hold onto the win. Haylee scored 18 points for us and Ashley Pulatie scored 13. Ashley had a big ballgame from beyond the three point arc hitting 4 three balls. Her shot is coming around and we hope she continues this throughout District. Word is that they ate taquitos before the game so keep’em coming Penny!!!!
On Saturday we beat Junction who was really shorthanded, they had some kids out due to injuries and were playing with a depleted squad. We won 55-10 and then downed Ozona for our last game by a score of 76-40. In the Ozona we hit 12 three pointers which is outstanding. Nessa had a big game going for 27 points and 5 three pointers. Overall it was a good tourney for us. Our backups got big minutes and experience which will hopefully pay off for them come District time. Danessa Vasquez and Tarah Crosby were named to the All Tourament team and Haylee Oliver captured MVP honors.
Well, the run for the GOLD BALL starts now. When the paper comes out we will have played Hico who is a preseason favorite by some to win our District. They’ll be a challenge for us so hopefully we came out on top. On Friday we will venture to the reservation and take on the Maidens from Comanche. We’ll get two strong tests before Christmas so hopefully we’re sitting "pretty" after the week. We need to keep playing hard and elminate turnovers.
I really like our effort but in our District we better bring our "A" game each night because there are several teams who can win on any given night.I’ve got a handful of SHOUTOUTS this week. First of all we have the best HANDYMAN in the State of Texas- he’s pretty much a Jack of All Trades in my book. Our team is very grateful for Marshal McIntosh and his role within our team. You’re a KEEPER my man. My next SHOUTOUT goes to our JV LADY DILLOS. You guys have really stepped up over the course of the year and are improving daily. SHOUTOUTS to Coach Stowe and Kayla Kutin for providing leadership as their coach and "on the floor coach". I’ll give the West end of the County a SHOUTOUT also and that goes to Coach Burkhart and staff. He never wants to take any credit for the job he does and he always deflects the accolades so I’ll "brag on him". If you guys aren’t a DYNASTY then I don’t know what one is. Congrats on a great season. I’ve always heard that 6 man is Basketball on Grass so I guess that’s the attraction for me. The theme for next year needs to be, "ONE FOR THE THUMB!!!"
As Christmas draws near the Lady Dillos and Coaching Staff would like to wish all a MERRY CHRISTMAS and JOURNEY MERCIES as you travel this season. Also, let’s not forget the real
REASON for the SEASON and that’s the birth of the GREATEST
player of ALL TIME so to speak and that’s our LORD and
SAVIOR- JESUS CHRIST!! Remember through him that ALL
things are POSSIBLE!!! Bundle up this Holiday Season and
