4-H District 7 Food Show

Having proven their culinary skills and talent worthy at the San Saba County 4-H Food Show, five 4-H’ers traveled to the Taylor County Expo Center in Abilene on Saturday, November 20

Participating in the Senior Main Dish competition from San Saba County and placing fifth was Melanie Hedley. Participating in the Senior Breads and Cereals category from San Saba County and placing third was Sara Hedley. Participating in the Intermediate Main Dish category was Mykah McKinnerney. Competing in the Intermediate Nutritious Snacks Category was Jordan Gossett. Participating in the Junior Main Dish competition was Jacey Gossett. Contestants were judged based on their knowledge of the Daily Food Pyramid, food safety, their dish’s nutritional benefits, possible dish substitutions, over all appearance, serving, new experiences in their food project, and their involvement in 4-H. Level of expectation from the judges varies based on the 4-H’er’s age level and experience.

Congratulations to all the San Saba County 4-H’ers in their Foods and Nutrition Projects! This year was full of new experiences for everyone! Our Foods and Nutrition project will start up again next fall with Food Fun Day. Hope to see some new faces!

First place participants from Brown, Burnet, Callahan, Coke, Coleman, Concho, Fisher, Irion, Jones, Lampasas, Llano, Mason, McCulloch, Menard, Mills, Nolan, Runnels, San Saba, Schleicher, Shackelford, Sterling, Taylor, and Tom Green were divided by their age category and their entry type.
