JV Lady Dillos Basketball Report
Thursday, December 2, 2010 • Posted December 2, 2010

The JV Lady Dillos have had a very busy schedule the past couple weeks, but thanks for Thanksgiving, the girls were able to get a nice little break before we get ready for another busy couple weeks heading into the Christmas break. Before the Thanksgiving break the girls’ played in the Hill Country Classic here in San Saba and got second place in the JV division. We beat Brady and Junction which lead to us playing Mason for the Championship. We played hard the entire game, sending it into overtime, but fell short in the end losing by 4.

After the tournament, we had two games that would lead us into the Thanksgiving holidays. On Monday, we played Brady at home. We jumped on them early and was able to get some turnovers which led to some easy lay-ups for us. I thought the girls played a great game and gave great effort the entire game. Going in at halftime we led 17-6. When we came out in the third quarter, we never looked back. The final score was 33-15. Scorers for the game were Mikayla Cisneroz with 13, Kayla Kutin with 8, Candace Saldivar with 4, and Mikayla Eden, Jacey Martinez, Nickie Ortiz, and Joely Haverland all with 2 points. The great part is that every girl on the team scored during this game.

On Tuesday, we traveled to Blanco. I knew by this time the girls were completely exhausted from all the games they had played. 5 games in 7 days is pretty tough, but these girls overcame it and played regardless. You could definitely tell at our game in Blanco these girls were ready for a break. We came out really sloppy and seemed to be playing in slow motion. We couldn’t get things going on either end for the longest. At half time we were only leading 8-5. This was Blanco’s second game of the season, so I felt like we should have jumped out on them a little better than we did considering we’ve played so many more games than them. We ended up beating them 26-7, which you can tell our second half was much better.

The girls are getting better every week and I think we’re headed in the right direction with district starting in a couple weeks. We play Merkel on Tuesday this week, as that is our only game of the week. We then pick back up next week as we play Goldthwaite Tuesday at home (huge game) and have the Mason tournament next weekend. I hope everyone had a great thanksgiving and was able to spend some quality time with friends and family and get some much needed relaxation. Thanks again for everyone’s support of the Lady Dillos and we hope you continue to follow us throughout the year! We could definitely use everyone’s support next week when the varsity play Goldthwaite, as we are looking to defeat the #1 team in the state in 1A after we lost to them by 1 in the championship game of our tourney!!! GO DILLOS!!
