Lady Dillo Basketball Report
Thursday, December 2, 2010 • Posted December 2, 2010

The San Saba Lady Dillos captured two wins before the Thanksgiving break and took a well deserved hiatus from the basketball court. We played six games in six days. All I know is that we were about ten miles outside of Blanco the other night and the bus was "quiet as a mouse". We were running on fumes on Monday and Tuesday but we got some subs some minutes which will hopefully pay off come district time. Our game this past Monday was with Brady and we won easily by a score of 51-29. We had great pressure and forced some early turnovers which lead to some easy baskets. We subbed freely throughout the game to keep fresh legs on the floor. Haylee Oliver lead us in scoring with 22 points followed by Danessa Vasquez with 9. Haylee also captured 13 rebounds while Tarah Crosby snared 6 boards as well. Johna Reavis lead us in steals with 4 and Haylee and Tarah each had 3 in the theft department as well. Haylee lead us in assists as well with 3. It was good to get back on the floor after the tough loss to Goldthwaite but our girls responded like they always do and we pulled out the win.

The next day we traveled to Blanco for our last game before the Thanksgiving break. We’ve never played Blanco since I’ve been in San Saba so it was good to see someone different for a change. We took an early 13-4 lead after one quarter and pushed the lead to 26-6 in the second quarter. Danessa Vasquez had a great night shooting the ball. I told her for the rest of the year to eat or drink whatever she had before the Blanco game. She really shot the ball well. Nessa lead us in scoring with 21 points.

Haylee Oliver also chipped in 12 points. Haylee also captured 8 boards and Jaena Edwards snared 6 as well. Haylee lead us in the assist department with 4 and Johna Reavis had another big game coming up with 4 steals to lead us in that category. Everyone got good minutes and it was good to go home with a win.

When the paper comes out we will have traveled to Merkel to face a strong Lady Badger team. I’m sure we will have been tested on the road which will help us come district time. For the rest of the week we have no games.

The following Tuesday (Dec. 7) we play Goldthwaite here

and are in the Mason Tournament with both our JV and Varsity. I hope that everyone had a safe and blessed Thanksgiving. My family and I traveled to McKinney and had a great time with family. I forgot in my last article to give some "SHOUT OUTS!!" Congrats to Coach Pannell and staff on a great season. I know it ended a bit premature but you guys have nothing to be ashamed of. You all displayed Dillo Pride all year and made the postseason exciting once again.

A "SHOUT OUT" to Mr. Sours and the band, sweet music to the ears all year long. All I know is that "duet" with the Karnes City band playing the National Anthem was outstanding. Take a bow Mr. Sours, you and your staff have done great things this year as well. District is just around the corner. Our first district game is with Hico on Dec. 14th and then we travel to Comanche before the Christmas break. I saw several of our district teams at our tourney. Bangs looked really good eventhough they lost to Brownwood, they got a bit of revenge before Thanksgiving as they beat the Lady Lions in Dragonland. Dublin got a movein from Comanche (Lauren Duncan) and she has really helped them. Dublin always seems to play us well at their place. Coleman graduated a great deal from last year but Tracy Dawson does a great job and he has the LadyKatts playing well. Early is in the same boat as Coleman, they graduated four really good seniors but Kristi Sandoval has the Lady Horns playing well and they’ll be tough come district time. I haven’t seen Hico or Hamilton. Hico has a great deal of fire power and likes to run up and down the floor. We scrimmaged Comanche and I’m sure Mickey Baker will have his troops ready to go when we travel to the reservation. Hamilton has scored lots of points in their early games

as well. What does all this mean? What it means to me is that our girls’ basketball district will be loaded once again. There are several teams that can win in this league on any given night. Like I always tell our girls. "Make sure we win our home games and steal a few on the road". Come out and support our Lady Dillos and Dillos.

Have a good one Ya Hear? Phil 4:13
