The Richland Springs Coyotes tagged their first trophy of the playoff season last Friday night in Buckholts. You won’t find this one in the Boone and Crockett record books but it had 52 points and a 46" spread. The win will go down in UIL records as a Bi-District Championship, the eighth for the Coyotes in the last nine years.

The Coyotes triumphed over, the home field advantage, high winds, and flag happy referees, all night long, in spite of, even the hometown Badger PA announcer, who was doing his part to help the referees by announcing "He’s Holding!!!" and exclaiming "Oh Thank Goodness" as a Coyote touchdown was nullified by a penalty. Coyotes 52-6.. game over with 2:06 left in the third period...Mercy, Mercy. Buckholts played well, but are left, like all teams not winning State Championships, with the "what if" game. "What if" they hadn’t had two interceptions..."What if" they hadn’t had two fumbles..."What if" one of their speedy backs could have returned even one of Brian Torres’ kickoffs, that instead, were sailing unreturnable out of the end zone? The Badgers should be proud for making the playoffs and just having the opportunity to play the "What if" game. Hats off to you, Badgers, for a fine season.

Coyote scoring drives recapped as Denim Reeves returns opening kickoff to the 20. Reeves 8 yd run. Reeves overthrows John Greenwood on a deep pass. Denim Reeves then races for 53 yds and a touchdown, sprung by a Stephen Fowler block. Torres PAT fails Coyotes 6-0 After Badger punt, Reeves passes incomplete to Chance Bush, then runs for 12 yds. Denim Reeves get free for a 48 yd Td . Soto’s PAT is good...Coyotes 14-0 Badgers turn the ball over on downs. Chance Bush runs for 16 yards on 1st down. Coyotes fumble but recover. John Greenwood rushes for eight..Reeves gets a couple on third and 6 from the Coyote 38. Reeves then scores, but it is called back for a penalty to the Badger 36..Reeves to Fowler incomplete..another penalty brings up 2nd and 15..fumbled snap.. Reeves recovers and scrambles and finds Chance Bush...Great Catch!! to the two. Brian Torres 2 yd run for the score. Frankie Soto’s Pat is good. Coyotes 22-0. Badgers score on a 4 yd run. PAT is blocked by Tommy Hollon. Coyotes 22-6 Badgers recover onside kick. After being stuffed by Elbert Thomas, Denim Reeves intercepts. Ball on Coyote 13 yd line. Reeves to Fowler for 35 yds. Brian Torres , then powers for 21 yds. 1st and goal from the 11 yd line. Reeves scoots in the endzone behind Ben VanCleave and Stephen Fowler blocks. Soto’s PAT is good...Coyotes 30-6...4:29 left in the half.

After Denim Reeves’ 2nd interception, First down on Coyotes 7 yd line. John Greenwood around right side for 3 and then Reeves to Bush for 17 yds and a first down. Reeves runs for 8 and then Brian Torres around the right side for 6 yds. Denim Reeves slams up the middle for 15 yards. Then another penalty...Reeves to Greenwood for 15..ball on Coyote 19 yard line. Reeves runs for 18 to the one.. then a false start ..Coyotes ball on the Badger 6..Reeves to Stephen Fowler.. Touchdown!! Frankie Soto’s PAT is good...Coyotes 38-6 After John Greenwood recovers a Badger fumble. Coyotes have 1st and 15 from the Badger 21. Brian Torres rushes for 8 and Ben Vancleave slides around the end for 13 yards and a touchdown.. Soto’s PAT is good. Coyotes 46-6 Badgers turn the ball over on downs and Coyotes punt for the third time this year. Elbert Thomas recovers fumble at the Badger 9 yard line and John Greenwood runs for short gain. Chance Bush led the defense with 9 solo tackles and 1 assist. Elbert Thomas had a stellar game with 5 solo tackles and 2 assists,and a fumble forced and recovery.
