Thursday, November 18, 2010 • Posted November 18, 2010

Well it’s that time of year again and what a busy time it is! Basketball games kicked off this past week for the San Saba JV Lady Dillos. On Tuesday, November 9

On Saturday, November 13

After halftime, we came out ready to play. We looked like a completely different team. I thought we played some great defense and was able to get some stops so we could score some points and get back in the game. Jacey Martinez came out and had a great game for us. She got some offensive rebounds that she was able to put back up and score on. Next thing I know, we are up 15-14. It seemed like a constant battle with them and the girls kept fighting the entire time. We were down 3 points with about 2:30 minutes left in the game so we began to press. We got some turnovers and Joely Haverland hit a BIG three pointer to tie the game. Then, with about 1:30 remaining, Mason was able to answer back with a big three pointer of their own. We tried to press and get the ball back, but ended up falling short by a score of 23-18. I thought the girls played really hard and we’re starting to get on the right track of things. Jacey Martinez was leading scorer with 6 points,.

This week we will have played Llano on Tuesday, then we start play at our tournament in San Saba this weekend. We play at 8:30am and 5:00pm on Thursday and at 8:30am Friday morning.

A BIG CONGRATS to the San Saba Armadillo football team on their big win last Friday night against Karnes City! I am so proud of you all! Keep working hard and go get you another gold ball! We’re all rooting for you guys!

th, we traveled to Brownwood to take on the Lady Lions. We knew that it was going to be a tough game for us, as Brownwood has a very good team. Right off the bat Brownwood came out rockin’ and rollin’ and it was a hard battle for our girls. The JV this year consists of 6 freshman and 2 sophomores. When you play a 3A school, you are usually playing some of the best athletes at that school. I thought our girls played a great defensive game once they finally settled down and played. It seemed like an eye-opening experience for these freshman girls because of the huge adjustment to high school basketball. We definitely struggled on the offensive side of things with only scoring 5 points the entire game and 4 of those coming from Mikayla Eden. I knew we would be ok for the year, because of the way our defense looked against them. I know it might sound crazy considering we lost 32-5, but in reality, you have to score more than 5 points to win a game. If we could have scored more points, I think we definitely could have been in the game. th, we played Mason at home. I knew it would be a great game for the girls to get their confidence back after the Brownwood game. We definitely came out a little sluggish and I’m not real sure they were awake yet even though it was a 5:00 game. It definitely looked like everyone had been out late at a football game the night before! In the first quarter we got down 12-0. Finally about mid way through the second quarter, we finally started playing on the offensive side. Nickie Ortiz and Candace Saldivar did some great things on the offensive end to get us going. When we went in the locker room at half time we were down 14-6.
