Thursday, November 18, 2010 • Posted November 18, 2010

The Cherokee Indians played their first Bi-district game in 5 years and almost upset the #2 Calvert Trojans.

Although the Indians were down 6-29 at the end of the first half, they mounted a strong comeback in the 2nd half and shut down the Trojan offense. The Indians had two touchdowns called back on penalties, one dropped touchdown pass, and one fumble recovery blown dead at the end of the game. The Indians had trouble with injuries throughout the game, but the players on the field stepped up and played their hearts out.

Tucker Corsi scored the Indians’ first touchdown with 6 seconds left in the 2nd quarter on a 7 yard run. The PAT failed. Calvert led 6-29 at halftime. With 1:15 remaining in the 3rd quarter, Josh Brown scored on a 3 yard dive play. Cham Fox added the PAT to make the score 14-29.

The last touchdown of the game came with 1:12 remaining in the 4th quarter on a 7 yard run by Damion Cooks. Fox added the PAT to cut the lead to 22-29. Time ran out before the Indians could get the ball back.

Defensively for the Indians, Corsi had 2 fumble recoveries. Brown blocked one PAT, got one interception, and recovered 2 fumbles. Burnam Sloan recovered a fumbled punt.

Cherokee finished the season 3-1 in district and 6-5 overall through bi-district. Great job, Indians. You were fun to watch.
