The San Saba Ladies Golf Association met November 4, 2010 with a special party for a special lady. Dorothy Sterner celebrated her 85th birthday! The ladies met at the San Saba River RV Park Community Room for the business meeting and party. The ladies all brought finger food and Becky Hardin, who was the leader in charge, brought in a beautiful birthday cake in the shape of a golf bag with pink icing. She also had ice cream, to complete the festivities. Dorothy received some really neat gifts but probably her favorite was a Dallas Cowboy T-shirt. Dorothy is an avid football fan, as well as a great golfer. Dorothy has many hobbies which include gardening and quilting. She had celebrated with her family over the weekend with, what else, but a fun family golf tournament with the group split up into two teams. They played in the Halloween tradition with the carts appropriately labeled: "Spooky" and "Boo" representing the two teams. I’m happy to announce that Dorothy’s team of "Spooky" won the heated competition. Kay and Andy Barclay, daughter Courtney, and Jenny completed the team. Debbie Lee, Robert, Connor, Zane, and Jane, other family members were on the "Boo" team. They had a really wonderful day at the San Saba River Golf Course as they are a delightful close family and they all adore Dorothy, as do the San Saba Lady golfers!

The business meeting was also conducted with the President, Anita Miles, calling the meeting to order and opening the meeting with prayer led by Hattie Rogers. The Secretary, Jo Anne Hardy, didn’t have the minutes so the meeting continued to Bobbie Churchill, Treasurer, giving the financial report. The ladies voted unanimously to give a memorial to the EMS in memory of Vivian McCall. The President also presented two other memorials to the Ladies Golf Association from Barbara and Les Hardy and Patsy Neff of Austin, Texas in honor of Vivian. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Ellis also made a memorial donation in honor of Vivian.

The date for the annual Christmas party was discussed and the party will be December 10, 2010 at the San Saba River Golf Course Community Room with the tradition of bringing a donation for the ministerial alliance in lieu of gifts.

The ladies adjourned for card games and celebrating with Dorothy! Janet Hoyt is not pictured but she did get to join in on some of the party activities. It was a joy to have Bette Odom, as she now lives in Hamilton, Texas and doesn’t make many of our meetings. She was accompanied by her husband, Travis Odom, who dropped in to visit with their old friends and Larry Hardin also made an appearance for the frivolity. Golf is fun but even better is the bonds of friendship that are formed through this sport. And there is no age limit, thank heavens! So once again, I encourage you to become a part of this organization and find out what fun it is to be "swinging"!
