8th Dillos trounce Junction Eagles 44-6

The 8th grade Dillos finished their 2010 season with a 44-6 victory over the Junction 8th grade Eagles at Rogan Field on Thursday night. The Dillos dominated on offense and defense the entire game.

Junction kicked to San Saba to start the game. Gabe Zimmer ran 55 yards for San Saba's 1st score. Zimmer ran in the extra points 8-0, Dillos. Good blocking by Joel Franco, Saul Cervantes, Will Cooley, Jessie Franco, Jose Lopez, Caelob Hardman, Emiliano Zapata, Bryon Riggs, Luis Macias and Drew Daniel opened big holes in the Junction defense for Zimmer.

San Saba kicked to Junction. The Eagles made a first down. The second time they tried a fake punt and made another first down. The Dillo defense of Ridge Smith, Ricky Villa, Luis Macias, Jose Lopez, Jessie Franco and Juan Gonzales stopped Junction's 3rd attempt at a first down. The Dillos got the ball back as the quarter changed. Gabe Zimmer ran for 12 yards. Zimmer then broke for a 50 yard touchdown. Jessie Franco added the PAT, 16-0, Dillos.

San Saba kicked to Junction. The Eagles completed a pass for a first down. The next play, Juan Gonzales hit the Junction quarterback as he threw. Joel Franco intercepted the pass for the Dillos and returned it 20 yards. Joel Franco ran up the middle for 9 yards. Gabe Zimmer added a 25 yard touchdown run. Jessie Franco ran the extra points in on a reverse, 24-0 Dillos.

San Saba kicked to Junction. The Dillo defense led by Joel Franco, Gabe Zimmer, Saul Cervantes, Will Cooley, Luis Macias, Ricky Villa, Bryon Riggs, Emiliano Zapata, Benito Martinez, Caelob Hardman, Ridge Smith and Joseph Messer stopped the Eagle attack and forced a punt. The Dillos took over on their own 18 yard line. Gabe Zimmer broke loose on an 82 yard touchdown run. The PAT failed, 30-0, Dillos.

San Saba kicked to Junction. Bryon Riggs and Jose Lopez got big hits on defense. Jose Lopez recovered a Junction fumble. San Saba's second team offense took over. Joseph Messer took over at quarterback. Jose Lopez ran for 5 yards, Emiliano Zapata scampered 25 yards for a Dillo touchdown. The PAT failed. Good blocking by Juan Gonzales, Ridge Smith, Benito Martinez, Ricky Villa, Bryon Riggs and Caelob Hardman sprung the path, 36-0 Dillos at the half.

San Saba kicked to Junction to open the second half. Junction drove down and scored. The PAT failed 36-6, Dillos.

Ridge Smith returned the ensuing kick for San Saba. Emiliano Zapata ran for 5 yards, Jose Lopez added 7, 4 and 5 yard runs. San Saba controlled the ball as the 4th quarter began. Emiliano Zapata gained 5 yards. Lopez lost 5 before gaining 8. Zapata ran for 3 yards. Joel Franco added 3. The Dillos fumbled the ball away at the Junction 5 yard line. Junction got the ball. A face mask penalty moved the ball 15 yards. Junction fumbled. Joel Franco picked up the loose ball and ran 15 yards for the Dillos final touchdown. Jessie Franco added the PAT, 44-6 Dillos.

After the touchdown the Dillos shut down the Eagles to end the game and the season with a big win. We are very proud of them. Gabe Zimmer ended the year with 1,786 yards rushing. The offensive line is responsible for a lot of it. They all worked hard.
