Dennis Clayton Gage, 99, died November 6, 2010, with his wife by his side in Brady, Texas.

A funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 9, 2010 at First Baptist Church, Llano, Tx. with interment at Llano City Cemetery.

Clayton was born January 27, 1911, in Bend, Texas, to Jonas M. and Bertha Gage. He was the third of seven children. His parents farmed in San Saba County for many years. He married Mabel Ruth Busby on May 15, 1934 in San Saba, TX. Clayton was a farmer, butane distributor, and grocer. While living in San Saba, Clayton and Ruth had two children, Bobby and Mary Ann. They made a move to Llano, TX in the early 1950’s-a residence that they would call home for almost sixty years. Clayton owned and operated System Grocery and Market (later Mini-Max) until his retirement in the 70’s.

Clayton was a dedicated member of the Llano Chamber of Commerce, serving as director. He served on the hospital board, housing authority board, and was active in the Masonic Lodge for sixty-five years, where he was honored as Worshipful Master. He also served as Worthy Patron of the Eastern Star. Clayton Gage was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church, Llano. Volunteer positions that he held at FBCL included service as a deacon, holding the position of chairman-ultimately being recognized as the first deacon emeritus, member of the building committee, secretary of the Sunday School as well as Sunday School teacher, and church greeter-a job he enjoyed until he was 96 yrs. old.

Clayton is survived by his wife, Ruth; daughter, Mary Ann McCarver; grandson, Scott David McCarver; granddaughter, Christy McCallum; great grandson, Gage McCallum; brother, J.M.; son-in-law, David McCarver; daughter-in-law, Diane Gage, and grandson-in-law, Luke McCallum, as well as loving members of the Busby family.

Clayton is predeceased by his parents,five siblings, Opa, Ola, Doris, Ray, and Floyd, and by his son, Bobby.

Memorials are asked to be made to Gideons. First Baptist Church of Llano or charity of choice.
