4-H’ers attending the food show are required to call upon their culinary skills attained during home experience and group 4-H activities when preparing their dishes. During the 4-H’ers presentations, they are interviewed and scored by judges based on their knowledge of foods and nutrition, the appearance (not the taste; due to health risks), presentation, dietary and lifestyle habits, and learning experience. The interview questions progress in complexity and difficult in correspondence with the age of the contestant. Junior 4-H’ers have the simplest questions and requirements, and Senior 4-H’ers have the most difficult standards and interview questions. This year’s County Food show had four Junior contestants, five Intermediate contestants, and five Senior contestants. This year had the largest turnout of Senior 4-H’ers entering in the County Food Show! A special round of applause goes out to those Seniors for staying active in their projects in 4-H.
