San Saba County 4-H Food Show

4-H’ers attending the food show are required to call upon their culinary skills attained during home experience and group 4-H activities when preparing their dishes. During the 4-H’ers presentations, they are interviewed and scored by judges based on their knowledge of foods and nutrition, the appearance (not the taste; due to health risks), presentation, dietary and lifestyle habits, and learning experience. The interview questions progress in complexity and difficult in correspondence with the age of the contestant. Junior 4-H’ers have the simplest questions and requirements, and Senior 4-H’ers have the most difficult standards and interview questions. This year’s County Food show had four Junior contestants, five Intermediate contestants, and five Senior contestants. This year had the largest turnout of Senior 4-H’ers entering in the County Food Show! A special round of applause goes out to those Seniors for staying active in their projects in 4-H.

th, the San Saba County 4-H hosted its annual food show in the courthouse at 4:00 P.M. There were six participants who prepared Main Dish entries, three who prepared a Fruits and Vegetables dish, four who prepared a Nutritious Snacks dish, and one prepared a Breads and Cereals dish for a grand total of fourteen participants. st Alternate; Junior Jacey Gossett in Main Dish received 1st place; Junior Kamree Lewis in Fruits and Vegetables received 1st place; Intermediate Mykah McKinnerney in Main Dish received 1st place and the $25 prize from Hill Country Cattle Women for the best beef dish; Intermediate Marissa Coffman in Main Dish Received 1st Alternate; Intermediate Emily Esquivel in Main Dish received 2nd Alternate; Intermediate Jordan Gossett in Nutritious Snacks received 1st place; Intermediate Riana Bass in Nutritious Snacks received 1st Alternate; Senior Brooke Vaughn in Fruits and Vegetables received 1st place; Senior Brooke Esquivel in Fruits and Vegetables received 1st Alternate; Senior Melanie Hedley in Main Dish received 1st place; Senior Tristen Pafford in Main Dish received 1st Alternate; Senior Sara Hedley in Breads and Cereals received 1st place.st place in their age group and category will advance to the District Competition on November 20th in Abilene.
