The Ozona 8th grade Lions defeated the San Saba 8th grade Dillos by a score of 28-0. The Dillos were short handed due to injury and disciplinary actions. The remaining 14 Dillos played their hearts out even though they were playing positions they had never played on short notice. Ozona was very classy in helping us with our situation. We are extremely proud of the effort put forward by these young men.
Ozona kicked to San Saba to start the game. The Dillos failed to field the punt and Ozona recovered the ball. The Lions scored 3 plays later on a 10 yard run. The PAT was good, 8-0, Lions.
Ozona kicked to San Saba. Jose Lopez, Jose Franco and Jessie Franco teamed up for a 1st down. The Dillo offense of Saul Cervantes, Drew Daniel, Ricky Villa, Bryon Riggs, Jason Jimenez, Benito Martinez, Christian Guerrero, Caleob Hardman and Joseph Messer did the blocking. San Saba was eventually forced to punt. Ozona scored quickly on a 40 yard run. The PAT failed, 14-0, Ozona. Emiliano Zapata, Joel Franco, Caelob Hardman and Bryon Riggs had good defensive plays. Ozona scored early in the second quarter and kicked an extra point for a 21-0 lead.
Ozona kicked to San Saba, the Dillos went 3 plays and punted. Ozona scored from 35 yards out and kicked the PAT for a 28-0 lead.
San Saba kicked to Ozona to start the second half. The second half was scoreless as the Dillo defense of Joel Franco, Saul Cervantes, Will Cooley, Jessie Franco, Jose Lopez, Ricky Villa, Bryon Riggs, Emiliano Zapata, Jason Jimenez, Benito Martinez, Cristian Guerrero, Caelob Hardman and Joseph Messer stopped the potent Lion offense. Emiliano Zepata did a good job at tailback for the first time. The offense never scored but had several bright spots.
The 8th grade Dillos play their final game against Junction here on Thursday night.
