"Back to Back" Superbowl Champs!

The Richland Springs 5th & 6th grade Coyotes claimed "back to back" Superbowl Championships this past Saturday in Zephyr, Texas. The Coyotes won the Six-Man Pee Wee Superbowl Championship last year in the 3rd & 4th grade division and has now claimed it in the 5th & 6th grade division! The Coyotes finished the season 6-1 on the year! The Coyotes once again, would face the Blanket Tigers in the Superbowl game. The Coyotes won the coin toss, took the opening kickoff, and it was All Coyotes from that point on. The Coyote made an opening statement real quick. With great cut blocking, Michael McElvaine zipped 63 yards on the first play of the game to set up the Coyotes first score. Jordan Burkhart strolled in from 7 yards out to give the Coyotes a early 6-0 lead. The PAT kick failed. The Tigers fumbled the ball away on their first possesion and Hutton Lusty was there to recover the loose ball for the Coyotes. The Coyotes put together a great drive and Hutton Lusty capped it off with a 3 yard TD plunge. Brandon Ferguson ended the 1st quarter with a successful PAT kick and giving the Coyotes a 14-0 lead. Blanket answered with their only score of the day on a 55 yard run, cutting the score to 14-8. The Coyotes once again had great cut blocking up front and was in the end zones before you could blink your eyes. This time Michael McElvaine scored on a 45 yard run TD run. Brandon Ferguson stayed perfect on his PAT kicks as he booted it through the uprights to give the Coyotes a 22-8 lead. Blanket tried to put a drive together right before the half, but it stalled at the Coyote 18 yard line as time expired in the first half. The Tigers received the second half kickoff and on the second play from scrimmage, it all went bad again for Blanket. The Tigers fumbled the ball away again and Jordan Burkhart was there to pounce on the ball for the Coyotes. At the 4:01 mark of the 3rd quarter, the Coyotes struck again. With two crushing blocks by Hutton Lusty, Jordan Burkhart scrambled 42 yards for the Coyote touchdown. This time Brandon Tharp added the PAT kick for the Coyotes. The Tigers just could not get things going, because of a swarming Coyote defense. Anthony Holt and Chandler Lusty apply heavy pressure up the middle all day long. With the Tigers behind, they were forced to go for a 4th down conversion, but it was spoiled by a Jordan Burkhart quarterback sack to end the 3rd quarter. The Coyotes were up 30-8 at this point. The Coyotes scored their final touchdown on a Michael McElvaine 6 yard run. The PAT kick failed and mkaing the final score 36-8! Endless hours of hard work by all players and coaches paid off again this year! Our hats go off to the outstanding 5th & 6th grade Championship Coyote Team: Peyton Sloan, Hutton Lusty, Jordan Burkhart, Chandler Lusty, Brandon Ferguson, Brandon Tharp, Michael McElvaine, Jeremy Martin , Anthony Holt and Tarrin Ballin.
