Jackie Brister has already been busy gathering pecans this year. It is getting that time for everyone who has pecans. Some will wait until the frost comes and the leaves drop before shaking the trees, but some early varieties are ready now. The crows that love pecans know when the early variety is ready for easy pickings.

Lola Morris reported that her nephew from Eola received two and sixth-tenths of rain Saturday . . . He was excited about the rain and called her thinking that people at Bend might have gotten the same amount or more as the clouds had moved off in the direction of San Saba and Bend. It would have been

nice, but sorry to report that only 1/10 of an inch fell in some places

around Bend.

It is the time of year for the home of William and Jane Clark to be decorated for an early Christmas that is held each year in November. Elsa Dean Shirley and son Kenneth Shirley of Claude and his fiancé Vanessa McChesney of Lubbock came in over the weekend to assist with the decorations. Kristi Messer came in from Lampasas to assist and also cooked the supper that they all enjoyed. Emerson and Gladys Brister of Thrall came in Saturday and joined the families for supper and of course after supper card games were enjoyed by everyone. It was a very busy weekend for everyone.

Jerome and Shirley Meischen drove to Leander to watch the game Saturday as Fox Sports is no longer carried on the dish. It was a disappointing game for the Longhorns who suffered a loss to the Iowa State Cyclones.

Jeffery, Tanya and Ashley Chalfant was in visiting her parents Rufus and Tommie Cobern this weekend. Tommie has been suffering from Bronchitis, but

has just about gotten over it according to Rufus.

Toni Mayben and Mickey Henniger are getting ready to enter a marathon next month. In preparation for the event Toni rode her bicycle and Mickey ran the

21 miles from Lampasas to Bend Friday in three hours and 40 minutes.

When R.J. heard about the feat, he had these works of wisdom to say, "that if he had of participated in the run he could have done it an hour faster, but his four-wheeler wouldn’t start." If they ever have a marathon for the biggest wild tale ever told, it is thought that R.J. could possibly walk away the big winner. The world needs more people with his sense of humor, or do they?

The Family Council of Eventide nursing home will be meeting Saturday, October 30, in the Rylander library at 10:15 a.m. All family members and friends of residents of the nursing home are encouraged to attend the

meeting.

Happy birthday goes out to Ryan Brister who will celebrate a birthday November 1.

Congratulation goes out to George and Toni Mayben who will celebrate their anniversary November 1, and to Lester and Lilly LeMaster who will be

celebrating their anniversary also on November 1.
