8th grade Sonora Colts kick 8th grade Dillos

Sonora's 8th grade Colts defeated the San Saba 8th grade Dillos by a score of 30-6. Sonora was a big and talented team. They did a lot of things really well. We hung with them for a half before succumbing to their strength. The game was played in Sonora.

Sonora kicked to San Saba to start the game. Gabe Zimmer ran for 12, 15, and 5 yards. Joel Franco ran for 7, Zimmer 2, Franco 3 and Zimmer added 2 more. A reverse to Will Cooley failed to gain a first down at the Sonora 10. The ball went over on down. Joel Franco, Saul Cervantes, Jose Lopez, Luis Macias, Drew Daniel, Bryon Riggs, Emiliano Zapata, Caleob Hardman, Ridge Smith and Joseph Messer blocked well before the opening drive stalled.

The Sonora Colts go the football and made two first downs before the Dillo defense of Garrett Welch, Joel Franco, Gabe Zimmer, Saul Cervantes, Will Cooley, Juan Gonzales, Jessie Franco, Jose Lopez, Luis Macias, Bryon Riggs, Emiliano Zapata, Cristian Guerrero and Caleob Hardman forced a punt.

The second quarter began with San Saba in possession. Zimmer ran for 3, 2, and 1 before the offense punted. Sonora ran a couple of plays before Will Cooley intercepted a Colt pass for the Dillos. Zimmer ran for 5, Cooley 1, Zimmer added runs of 5, 3, and 22 yards. Franco rambled for 15 more yards. Zimmer gained 6, 5, then 2 before fumbling at the Sonora 10 yard line. The half ended in a 0-0 deadlock.

San Saba kicked to Sonora to start the second half. Sonora drove the ball on the Dillo defense. The Colts scored and made their PAT to go up by 8-0. Sonora kicked to the Dillos. Zimmer gained 5 yards before fumbling in Dillo territory. Luis Cerrvantes intercepted a Colt pass the next play. Zimmer ran for 20 yards, Franco added 5, Zimmer 3 and 1. The Dillos came up short and were forced to punt.

Sonora opened up a big gap in the Dillo defense on a trap play for a 77 yard touchdown. The play was brought back to the Dillo 30 on a penalty. The Colts ran the trap again and their 210 plus fullback scored. The PAT failed. 14-0 Sonora.

Sonora kicked to San Saba. Joel Franco took the kick and returned it 30 yards, but was stripped of the ball and Sonora scored. The pass for the extra points was good, 22-0 Sonora.

Sonora kicked to San Saba as the quarter changed. Zimmer ran for 7, 5, 5, 7 and then lost a yard. Cooley ran for 10 yards, Zimmer broke around the right side for a 27 yard touchdown run. The PAT, failed, 22-6, Sonora.

Juan Gonzales, Joseph Messer, Ridge Smith,Cristian Guerrero, Brent Martinez, Ricky Villa, Luis Macias, Jose Lopez and Joel Franco did the blocking.

San Saba kicked to the Colts. They ran the starburst return for a touchdown. The PAT was good, 30-6, Sonora. Garrett Welch received the kick from Sonora. He was shaken up on the play and Will Cooley took over as quarterback. Zimmer had runs of -5, 0 and +5. The Dillos punted and Jose Lopez fell on the Colt fumble. Zimmer ran for 5, Franco, 1, Zimmer 1 and 2 yards to end the game.
