Thursday, October 21, 2010 • Posted October 21, 2010

A Candlelight Vigil Service was held at the Mill Pond Pavilion on Wednesday, October 13th, from 7:30 to 8:30, sponsored by the Dove Project for Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Attendees were given purple ribbons and visited tables with information regarding violent situations where lives have been taken. Shoes were placed on the table to represent the victim or victims.

Malissa Mims, Director of the Dove Project, welcomed the approximately 50 people attending, followed by the invocation by Rev. Sam Crosby.

Lindy Schulz, as speaker, told a true account of a 1986 Violent murder when the victim was packing a suitcase getting ready to leave, but was killed by the abuser. A song, My Temporary Home, was sung by Kyla Duncan, followed by words of support from Stan Weik, San Saba City Manager.

Malissa ended the service by mentioning the paper that lists the situations of abuse and that if the victim stays, it is up to the neighbor, friend, relative to report the abuse and help the victim.

Candles were lit to float on Mill Pond to represent the victims of domestic violence in Texas.
