In February, 1991, one pound of bacon sold in San Saba for 99 cents, a two hundred acre ranch with cabin and water well located in San Saba County was offered for sale for $575 per acre, and a "Hamburger Special" in a local restaurant was advertised for 99 cents. Also, that year, a new Chevrolet S10 pickup was advertised for $7,449 and a half gallon of ice cream only cost $1.89. For nearly twenty years, the price of nearly everthing we buy has gone up again and again, except for the San Saba News and Star. In that year, our single copy price was raised to 50 cents and it has remained at that price since that time. We, too, have felt a steady rise in our cost of doing business but have maintained nearly twenty year old pricing for our customers.

We now find it necessary to increase the single copy price to reflect these increased costs. Effective Wednesday,October 27th, the single copy price of the San Saba News and Star will increase from 50 cents to 75 cents per issue. The one year In-County subscription rate will increase from $21.00 to $29.00. One year subscription rates for Out-of-County residents will change from $26.00 to $37.00. Out-of-State one year subscriptions will change from $39.00 to $49.00.

We understand that there is never a good time to increase our rates. However, we hope our valued customers understand the necessity of our prices increasing from time to time to "keep up with inflation."
