The Cherokee Indians finished pre-district play on a 3 game winning streak. Their 60-14 victory over the Zephyr Bulldogs last Friday night was their second consecutive win by the 45 point rule and their first win in several seasons over the Bulldogs.

Things started off right for the Indians as Damion Cooks came up with a fumble recovery on the opening kickoff. Josh Brown got the Indians on the board first on a 22 yard run. Cham Fox kicked the PAT. Zephyr came back on their next possession to score on a 1 yard run. The PAT failed. The Indians led 8-6. The Indian’s next possession resulted in a TD pass from Nieves Solis to EJ Borchers for 30 yards. Fox added the PAT. With 38 seconds remaining in the quarter, Tucker Corsi scored on a 6 yard run. The PAT was blocked. The Indians led 22-6 at the end of the 1st quarter.

Corsi got the first TD of the 2nd quarter on a 15 yard run. Fox booted the PAT. The Indians committed their only turnover of the night on their next possession. The defense came up big as Corsi nabbed a Bulldog pass and returned it 50 yards for a TD. Fox kicked the PAT to put the Indians up 38-6 with 2:16 left in the half. Zephyr scored their last points on a 49 yard pass play and kicked the PAT to make the score 38-14 with 2:01 remaining until halftime. Borchers returned the ensuing kickoff 60 yards for a TD and Fox’s PAT was good to give the Indians a 46-14 halftime lead.

Midway through the 3rd quarter, Corsi broke loose for a 65 yard TD run. Fox kicked his 6th PAT of the game to put the Indians up 54-14. Stephen Austermann ended the next Bulldog possession with an interception. Corsi ended the game with 1:14 left in the 3rd quarter on a 21 yard TD run, his fifth TD of the game.

District play starts in a big way Friday night as the Indians travel to Richland Springs to take on the Coyotes. Kickoff is 7:30.
