Thursday, October 7, 2010 • Posted October 7, 2010

After suffering back to back losses against Hill Country and Rochelle, the Junior Coyotes got back in the groove, 45-0, against Gustine Junior High Tigers last Thursday evening. With three time Six Man State Title winner, Coach Jerry Burkhart filling in for Coach Brand, the Coyotes won with a total team effort. Much improved blocking, tackling, and execution of the offense were evident as the Coyotes evened their record to 2-2 with a good Cherokee junior High team coming up this week. The offensive scoring was let by Storm Teel who had two rushing touchdowns and three tosses for TDs and a PAT run. Jacob Cohn had a long run for a touchdown on the Coyotes first offensive play from scrimmage and caught one of Teel's passes for another score. Sixth grader, Brandon Ferguson got his first two scores of his junior high career with a nice run and another with a catch. Robert (Poppy) Bess made a nice catch and run for a score and added a PAT catch, Jeremy Martin rounded out the scoring with a PAT RUN. William King did an excellent job at center, filling in for the injured Justin Patino. Defensively, the penalty plagued Tigers were held to almost no offensive yardage. Jacob Cohn's speed rushes from the end netted numerous tackles for losses and Poppy Bess and William King plugged the middle against a bigger Tiger team. Other outstanding defensive contributions came from Storm Teel, Anthony Holt, and Tarrin Ballin.

Coach Brand was out this week attending his wife and newborn baby boy, Thomas Michael Brand III, their second child.
