James Harkey Celebrates 90th Birthday
Thursday, October 7, 2010 • Posted October 7, 2010

On September 16th, James Harkey celebrated his 90th birthday at the Senior Center in San Saba. Enjoying the occasion with him were his friends at the center, as well as his son, Randy Harkey of San Antonio and his daughter and son-in-law, Marsha and Jim Childress. James and his late wife, Erma, also have five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

James has spent most of his life in San Saba except for his time at the University of Texas and in the Navy during WWII. For many years he was a businessman and civic leader. He was active in the Volunteer fire Department, American Legion, Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce and City Council. James was always eager to serve his community and is especially proud to have started the Little League Program for San Saba. He also was one of three men to initiate the building of the local golf course. It is a favorite place for James and most afternoons you can find him there.
