Last Friday night, the San Saba Armadillos proved the saying "It’s not the size of dog in the fight, but the size of fight in the dog." The Lago Vista Vikings suited 51 players and San Saba suited 21 but the Vikings needed a touchdown with 1:08 left in the game to pull out a hard-fought 14-7 win at Sizemore Field in Lago Vista.

The Vikings won the toss and deferred giving the ball to San Saba to start the game. The Dillos started at the 24 and gained a first down before having to punt. It ended up being the only first down San Saba would get the entire half.

Lago Vista started at the 27. Behind the running of JeMarcus Johnson, Montrey Buford and Carter Baker, the Vikings moved to midfield before being halted by the Dillo defense on 4th down.

The Armadillos punted on its next possession and Lago Vista started at the 20 after the punt went into the end zone for a touchback. The Vikings drove to the San Saba 16 where the Dillo defense stopped the runner on 4th down.

The Dillo offense failed to move the ball and Max Palacio punted to the Vikings. The return by Johnson put the ball at the Dillo 44.

A 10-yard run by Johnson set up a 34-yard touchdown run by Carter Baker. Dylan Haines added the PAT and Lago Vista led 7-0.

A good return on the ensuing kickoff put the ball at the San Saba 42. Unable to gain a first down, Palacio got off a good punt, rolling dead at the Viking 5 yard line.

With 6:32 to go in the second quarter, Lago Vista drove the length of the field before being stopped on downs at the San Saba 20 with only 14 seconds left in the half. Ryan Pannell took a knee to end the half at 7-0 in favor of Lago Vista.

The Vikings started the second half at the 20 after the Diego Gonzalez kick sailed into the end zone for a touchback. The Dillo defense held the Viking offense and the punt was downed at the San Saba 12.

The San Saba offense started to move the ball, but had to punt the ball from near midfield. Diego Gonzalez was called on to punt after Palacio got hurt. The Gonzalez punt rolled dead at the 18 yard line.

The Vikings continued to drive the ball but the Armadillo defense held at the Viking 48.

San Saba began their next drive at the 32. The running of Jack Whitten, Gary Gant and Alan Hale moved the ball down the field. A 25-yard reception by Luke Cox highlighted the drive. Whitten capped the drive on 4th down on a 1-yard plunge for the touchdown. Gonzalez made the PAT and the score was tied at 7-7 with 5:15 to go in the game.

The Gonzalez kick went through the end zone for a touchback. Lago Vista began at the 20 and appeared to be stalled before a nice run by JeMarcus Johnson moved the ball to the 40. Johnson got loose on a 43-yard run to the Dillo 5 to set up the Vikings. The San Saba defense stiffened. Johnson finally scored on a 2-yard run on 4th down with 1:08 left. Dylan Haines added the PAT and the 14-7 lead.

San Saba had one more chance but failed on a 4th down pass with 11 seconds left. Lago Vista took a knee to finish the game. Lago Vista gained 363 yards on the ground compared to the 138 total yards for San Saba but the Dillo defense held when it needed to.
