San Saba 8th Grade Dillos lost a hard fought defensive battle to the Lago Vista Vikings in Lago Vista last Thursday night. It was a great game. Lago Vista kicked to San Saba to start the game. Ridge Smith returned the kick for 10 yards. Gabe Zimmer had runs for 12, 15 and 10 yards. Joel Franco added 7. A penalty stalled the drive. Will Cooley, Nick Guerrero, Juan Gonzales, Luis Macias, Drew Daniel, Ricky Villa, Bryon Riggs, and Emiliano Zapata all performed blocking assignments. Lago Vista took over on offense. A stiff defense led by Emiliano Zapata, Garrett Welch, Joel Franco, Saul Cervantes, Jessie Franco, Jose Lopez, Fernando Rocha, Christian Guerrero, Caleob Hardman and Gabe Zimmer forced a punt by the Vikings. San Saba ran 3 plays and punted. Luis Macias hit the punt returner and caused a fumble. San Saba took over at mid field. Zimmer ran for 2 yards, Joel Franco broke loose on a 40 yard drive play for a touchdown. The PAT failed. 6-0 Dillos. San Saba kicked to the Vikings. The second quarter began with a Viking possession. Lago Vista drove to the Dillo 20 yard line before good defense by Caleob Hardman. Bryan Riggs and Emiliano Zapata forced a Viking turnover. Zimmer ran for 9 yards then 4 and 3. The Vikings held Zimmer for a 3 yard loss and the Dillos punted. The half ended 6-0 Dillos.

San Saba kicked to Lago Vista to begin the second half. Gabe Zimmer had a big hit on the Viking quarterback. Zapata and Joel Franco had big defensive plays. Benito Marinez, Fernando Rocha, Luis Macias, and Jose Lopez played well. Lago gave up the ball at the Dillo 20 yard line. Zimmer ran for 3. Franco added 5, Zimmer 1. The Dillos fumbled on 4th and 6 inches and the Vikings took over with good field position. Lago began its winning drive from the Dillo 35 yard line. The Vikings continued the drive as the 4th quarter began. The Vikings scored on 4th down from 5 yards out. The PAT was good, 8-6 Vikings. The Vikings kicked to San Saba. Zimmer ran for 5, Will Cooley added 4. The Dillos fumbled the snap on the next play. Lago Vista took over. Jose Lopez, Jessie Franco and Garrett Welch slowed the Vikings. San Saba's offense took over with one more chance. Zimmer lost 2 yards then gained 5. The Dillos tried to pass but all 3 fell incomplete and the game ended 8-6 Vikings. San Saba 8th plays Goldthwaite, there Thursday night after the 7th grade game.
