San Saba 8th Grade Dillos rolled to a 44-20 victory over the Hamilton 8th Grade Bulldogs last Thursday night at Rogan Field. The Dillos scored often to out distance the Bulldogs.
Hamilton kicked to San Saba to start the contest. San Saba took over and Zimmer ran right for 8 yards, on the second play from scrimmage, Gabe Zimmer took a pitch from Garrett Welch and scampered 62 yards for the first Dillo score. The PAT failed, score 6-0 Dillos. Good blocking by Joel Franco, Emiliano Zapeta, Luis Macias, Will, Codey, Juan Gonzales, Drew Daniel, Christian Guerrero and Bryon Riggs, cut down the Bulldog defense.
San Saba's Jose Lopez kicked to Hamilton. Hamilton tried to run but the Dillo defense was good. On 3rd and 7, Hamilton went to the pass. The receiver was well covered but made a great catch for a Bulldog score. The PAT failed... 6-6.
Hamilton kicked to San Saba and Gabe Zimmer lost 3 yards on the first play. The second play found Zimmer on a 55 yard TD run opened up by fullback Joel Franco and halfback Will Cooley. Joseph Messer, Emiliano Zapata, Ricky Villa and Luis Macias threw good blocks. Zimmer's run for the extra points was good, 14-6 Dillos.
San Saba kicked to Hamilton. The defense led by Emiliano Zapata and Luis Macias sacked the Hamilton quarterback as the quarter changed. Hamilton began the second quarter by punting to San Saba. The Dillos got good field position and Gabe Zimmer had runs of 3 and 1 yards. Garrett Welch gained 9 yards and a first down. Zimmer added runs of 3 and 5 yards before unloading for a 35 yard touch down. Benito Martinez, Saul Cervantes and Caleob Hardman blocked. The PAT failed, 20-6 Dillos. San Saba kicked to Hamilton, the defense played well as Joel Franco, Gabe Zimmer, Jose Lopez, Saul Cervantes, Jessie Franco, Fernando Rocha, Bryon Riggs, Caleob Hardman, Ridge Smith and Benito Martinez rose to the occasion. Hamilton was forced to punt. The Dillo offense took over. Zimmer ran for 1 yard. On the next play, Cooley and Joel Franco blocked great and sprung Gabe for a 55 yard touch down run. Zimmer ran in the PAT, 28-6 Dillos. San Saba kicked off. Hamilton ran 2 plays and fumbled. San Saba took over and killed the clock on runs by Will Cooley and Joel Franco.
San Saba kicked to Hamilton to start the second half. Good defense by the Dillos led by Garrett Welch, Saul Cervantes, Juan Gonzales, Jessie Franco, Jose Lopez, Ricky Villa, Fernando Rocha and Ridge Smith forced a Bulldog punt. Zimmer broke loose on a 55 yard touchdown run right away and Garrett Welch took it in for the PAT 36-6 Dillos. D.J. Martin, Cristian Guerrero, Ricky Villa, Caleob Hardman, Juan Gonzales and Will Cooley all threw in good blocks. San Saba kicked to Hamilton. The Bulldogs again went to the pass and though well covered the receiver made a great catch for a score. The PAT failed, 36-12. Hamilton kicked to San Saba. The kick was deep and the Dillos were deep in their own territory. Zimmer ran for 3, 1, and 2 yards. The Dillos were forced to punt. Will Cooley punted. Hamilton returned a good punt to the Dillo 15 yard line. It took Hamilton 3 plays to score, the PAT was good. 36-20 Dillos. Hamilton's kick off was short, San Saba took over with good field position. Zimmer ran for 2 yards and then 11 as the 4th quarter began.
The 4th quarter began with Will Cooley running for 17 yards. Zimmer added 5 more. Will Cooley picked up blocks from Joseph Messer, Gabe Zimmer, and Joel Franco as he ran 15 yards for a Dillo touchdown. Zimmer ran in the PAT, 44--20 Dillos. San Saba kicked to Hamilton. The Dillo defense of Jose Lopez, Jessie Franco, Ridge Smith, Benito Martinez, Bryon Riggs, Saul Cervantes, Luis Macias and Fernando Rocha caused Hamilton to give up the ball. Jose Lopez had a 2 yard gain. San Saba fumbled. Hamilton took over and made one first down before fumbling. The Dillo offense knelt the ball and ended the game. It was a great offensive performance and the defense played well most of the time. Many improvements were made in a weeks time. The 8th Dillos play LagoVista there Thursday night. Gabe Zimmer had a great night with 301 yards rushing and 5 touchdowns.
