The old man weather was kind to this area Tuesday and Wednesday of last week. Folks around the Bend received over a three-inch rain over the two days. Lampasas and areas farther on East received too much rain and folks have been struggling to clean up after the downpour. Brownwood had over a five-inch rain causing the Colorado river to rise. Sunday the water was still running red. The river needed the extra water to flush it out, which should make for better fishing.
Michael and Gennifer Brister had friends who came from Houston, Austin and Amarillo to bird hunt. Gennifer’s parents Tommy and Becky Grant, along with her brother Guy and his son Tyler were in as well. Dillon Brister just finished up first grade with Texas Tech (TTUISD). This was the first year that he had to do his finals with his distance education teacher. His teacher Mrs. Gaskins was very impressed with his scores. Dean Brister has started Pre-K through Texas Tech and has been doing very well and also doing a little of kindergarten as well.
Gennifer had some friends in Belton and Salado who was hit very hard by the flood. She, Michael and sons delivered items of clothing, laundry baskets, toothbrushes etc. Most of the people didn’t have flood insurance and were grateful for their help. If you have items to donate call Gennifer as she will be going every week to take items to that area.
The football season has started with a bang this year. Jerome and Shirley Meischen didn’t attend the Texas Longhorn game Saturday in Austin, but watched the game on TV when the Longhorns played the Wyoming Cowboys. The final score was Texas 34 and Wyoming 7. They saw their grandson Blake Gideon make some very exciting plays during the game.
Glenda Scroggins was back in the hospital at Scott and White in Temple she and her family need to be put on your prayer list. Rufus Cobern reported that Bernice Porter seemed to be stronger and is doing very well. They played dominoes one day this past week .
Recent visitors in the home of William and Jane Clark were Bobby Clark and his dogs of Round Rock and along with him was Clinton Wallace and his sons Lane and Colton of Round Rock and Zack Wallace of Round Rock. Jamie and sons’ A.J. and Andrew Houdyshell Doug, Kristie, Jordan and Jaylee Messer of Lampasas, Boyd Clark and sons Eli and Silas of Lubbock.
Sunday for lunch William and Jane Clark had LaNell Daniels and Toni Mayben, Jamie and boys A. J. and Andrew Houdyshell and from Lampasas, Doug, Kristie, Jordan and Jaylee Messer.
Bill and Jo Price had visitors over the Labor Day weekend. Her brother and his family, Larry, Donna and children Trent and Daniel Hensley of Midland enjoyed swimming, fishing and playing games. Sunday night Robert, Spring and Haley Price along with the families enjoyed a fish fry.
Deidra Nixon and sons, Sean and Ethan of The Woodlands, was in visiting family over the Labor Day weekend. Thursday night at the home of William and Jane Clark, Richard and Tammie Matsler, Rufus and Tommie Cobern, Bill and Jo Price enjoyed playing Hand & Foot.
Rufus and Tommye Cobern went to Cedar Park Saturday to celebrate the birthday of granddaughter, Ashley Chalfant who just turned 8. Jean Poor and son Nathan and a cousin came in from Arlington Friday to visit the Clark family.
Jordan and Jaylee Messer visited their grandparents Friday and spent the night. Saturday A.J. and Andrew Houdyshell spent the night with grandparent’s, William and Jane. A birthday celebration was held for Andrew Sunday. Toni Mayben baked the birthday cake and after lunch Doug, Kristie Messer, Jamie Houdyshell, Stephen Bynum and son J.D. of Lampasas along with the Poor family watched as Andrew shot off his rockets and flew his remote control helicopter that was his birthday gift.
The Bend Community meeting will take place Saturday, September 18, at 6:30 p.m. The meal will be a covered dish supper. The upcoming Fish Fry, Cake Auction and Silent Auction will be discussed and planned. Everyone is welcome to attend and asked to bring their favorite dish and /or dessert and join in on the planning. All suggestions will be welcomed. Happy birthday wishes go out to Chas Herd who will celebrate a birthday September 16, to Tommy Pulatie and LaFayne Porter whose birthday is September 18.
Congratulations go out to Mo and Dean Brown who will be celebrating their anniversary September 21.
