San Saba River Golf Course 2010 Club Championship
Thursday, September 9, 2010 • Posted September 9, 2010

The 2010 San Saba River Golf Course Club Championship was played on August 28th and 29th 2010. There were 28 participants that started the tournament and all but 2 finished the event.

The Men’s Championship started out with 14 players and with defending Champion Bob Whitten out fishing and 12 time Champion David Potts in Rankin Texas for the weekend it was anybodies Tournament to win. Saturday’s round found John Reavis and Scott Wendlandt from Cedar Park Texas out in front. The flight was split in half with the higher scores becoming the Men’s Presidents Flight with Johnny Clawson in the lead. Day two was very exciting with the Championship flight coming down to the final few holes before newcomer Scott Wendlandt edged out John Reavis by one stroke. Tom Brand shot a very solid 81 on day two to take the President’s flight by 5 strokes.

The Women’s Championship only had two competitors this years and defending Champions Sandra Baskin came thru again over Sandee Hartley. My apologies go out to Anita Miles, I found out on Sunday that she did not know about the tournament.

Our Senior Championship is becoming one of the most competitive and will get even better in the next few years with Buddy Adams and Mike Conners turning 65 this year, but this year it was 2 time defending Champ Jerry Minter (now from San Saba) making it three straight!! He had a very hard fought battle with David Harrell and this match was decided late when Minter birdied 2 of his last 4 holes take home the top prize.

Ralph Wilson won the Senior Presidents Flight with Mike Allen one shot behind for second place. We had four players that played from the white tees and Rick Wilson took home the first place cash and Tony Cantu was second.

I do appreciate all that played and hope to have a bigger crowd for next year. Congratulations to all of the winners!
