The county didn’t get rain this past week, but Thursday there were showers in and around Brady early and then late in the afternoon there were more showers south of San Angelo and around Brady. Rain had fallen also around Sterling City. Some people around the Bend received an early morning shower Friday, but not enough to even measure.
Bill and Jo Price were in Midland for the Arco retirees’ luncheon Thursday and did get to see some rain for the few lucky ones that received it Thursday. One of the retirees has a dove lease somewhere near Stanton and he reported that while out to his lease Wednesday the bottom fell out with lots of wind, but nothing west of there. It seems that the rain that does fall is very scattered over the state. A big general rain over the whole state is needed.
Thank goodness for weather if it wasn’t for the weather we would not have anything to talk about or to write about.
Clara Wash reported last week that the grass hoppers out at her place up by Richland Springs were eating up everything they could find. They ate all the leaves off of her pecan tree, ate her hanging basket of Hens & Chickens just leaving a stub and all the leaves off her ash trees in the yard. There are plenty of hoppers around the Bend, and so far they haven’t attacked the pecan trees, but they have eaten holes in the leaves of plants.
Jerome and Shirley Meischen are getting into the swing of things this month as the football season kicks off. Their grandson Blake Gideon and the Long Horns will be playing in Houston Saturday. They are, as everyone knows very dedicated supporters of the Long Horns.
Most of the folks around Bend will be having visitors who will spend some time hunting birds. It is way too early to have all the names of visitors, but next week all the information will be forth coming. Hope all the hunters get their limit of birds and are safe, as no one wants to have to report on an accident.
The Bend community meeting will be September 18, at 6:30 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend to help plan the October fund raiser this year. Be sure and put it on your calendar.
