September 6, 2010 - Schools thrive on volunteers and parent involvement. We hope that you will make it a priority to sign up and seek out opportunities to volunteer and be involved at school. What does it take to be a volunteer? It’s simple…to be a volunteer all you need to do is go by the Central Office at 808 West Wallace and fill out a criminal history form which starts the process. Once you have been cleared through the criminal history form, we will add your name to the list of volunteers. This list is provided to the campuses so that they can call you to help volunteer. Once you are cleared and ready to go you will be notified that you can begin volunteering on campus. When this happens, if you have a specific campus on which you would like to serve, then I would encourage you to contact the campus principal of that campus and let them know of your interest. We need volunteers to serve as readers to students, to adopt a teacher and assist the teacher, to help children cross the streets, to organize materials, to help in the cafeteria, to help out on special days like OFYP enrichment and tutorial days, or the Armadillo Pride Program, you name it we can find a spot for you. If you have a special talent that makes you particularly beneficial in a specific area, please do not hesitate to brag on yourself and let us know this information.
We all have something to offer the children of San Saba and the teachers of the school district, so don’t be bashful! Sign up today to serve. As well, we need our parents to be active and supportive. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and to get to know the adults caring for your children. I encourage you to meet with the campus principals so that you will know their philosophies, procedures, and beliefs. The more you know about the administrators, the better you will understand and feel about your child’s education! We have set dates for open house, but don’t let these dates be the only time you come to school. Please mark your calendars for the following open house dates: 9/20/2010 from 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm for San Saba Elementary School; Middle School and High School will host on 9/27..Middle School from 5:30 pm – 6:30 pm and High School from 6:00 – 7:00 pm.
