The first week of school went smoothly. Enrollment for the school year began at 134 students. The students were introduced to new staff members. Michael Brand will be teaching math and will also be coaching. Amanda Brand will be teaching sixth grade English and reading, and will also be facilitating Spanish I and Spanish II. Amanda Brand is part time and will teach 4 periods each day. Dr. Joseph Huckestein will be teaching science grades 7-12. Please welcome our newest staff members to Richland Springs.

Varsity football action last Saturday night vs. Milford was an exciting game. It was 90 degrees at kickoff and the heat took its toll on both teams. The Coyotes were victorious by a score of 58-56. The JV team lost to Water Valley last Thursday 41-30. Football action continues this week against Panther Creek. The junior high and JV teams will play at Coyote Field beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The varsity Coyotes travel to Panther Creek for a 7:30 kickoff on Friday. The cheerleaders this year are Emily Smith, Kensie Green, Courtney Herbert, Desirae Bessent, Ashley Ferguson, Stormi Davee, Cheyenne Tharp, and Brooklyn McGinty. Come support our student athletes at the games. If you cannot make the varsity game in person, listen on the internet at www.sansabaradio.com (on the AM side) each week.

Labor Day is a United States federal holiday observed on the first Monday in September (September 6 in 2010). Richland Springs ISD will be closed on Monday, September 6th, and classes will resume on Tuesday September 7th.

Valerie Gossett is again coordinating the 4H program at Richland Springs. 4H will hold their first meeting this Thursday, September 2nd after school in the library. 4-H’ers participate in fun, hands-on learning activities, while learning leadership, citizenship and life skills.
