Doug Lackey

Doug Lackey, 79, of San Saba, passed away Thursday, May 22, 2008 at his residence in San Saba. He was born April 12, 1929, in San Saba County, the son of William R. Lackey and Alena Kathryn Ratliff. Doug spent many days fishing and enjoying life on the river. He donated many pounds of fish to the EMS and gave a lot to friends. His other love in life was dancing, trading, and haggling with the price. He gave secretly and never bragged about his gifts. He enjoyed giving to his grandchildren, along with aggravating them. Working pecans was another trade he enjoyed. He kept saying year after year: “I would like to make one more good crop.” He attended the First Baptist Church in San Saba.

He is survived by one son, Barton Douglas Lackey and his wife, Denise, of Lithia Springs, GA; two daughters: Sheila Ferrell and her husband, Rick, of San Saba; and Tammy Morgan of Denison, TX; four grandchildren: Chantay Hibler of San Saba; Rikki Tai Ferrell of Corinth, TX; Tara Tharp and her husband, Jason, of San Saba; and Lauren Scroggins of Lithia Springs, GA; three great-grandchildren: Micah and T.J. Hibler, and Avery June Tharp, all of San Saba; two brothers: Fletcher Lackey and his wife, Yoko, of San Saba; and Winston Lackey of Brazoria, TX; two sisters: Patsy Teltow and her husband, Jerry, of Salado, TX; and Erma Avant of Arcadia, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alenia Ratliff Lackey and William Rainey Lackey, and one brother, Wade Lackey.

Services were held Saturday, May 24, 2008 at the Howell-Doran Funeral Home. Interment followed at the San Saba City Cemetery.

Family requests that memorials be made to the San Saba County EMS.

Funeral services were under the direction of the Howell-Doran Funeral Home.
