No rain this past week, but later on this week they (the weather men) promise some scattered showers which will be better than nothing. In west Texas you didn’t want it to rain because the dove would have plenty of places to get water other than around the water tanks which were always the best place to shoot the dove in West Texas. The hunting is different in and around Central Texas. The sun flowers that some plant to lure the dove in seems to be the best bet in Central Texas and around water is always good especially in the late evening.
Bad Bob’s Bait Store reported that the channel cats are biting early in the morning and late in the evening. It is too hot up in the day to fish. Guess the fish know to head for the shade or deep water when it is so warm. They are catching them on rod and reel using cut-bait, night crawlers or jigs. The reports come from all the fishing camps and the state park. There are no crowds to contend with now, so it would be a good time to come and enjoy the fishing. While in the Bend be sure and stop by the store and swap stories with Bad Bob. He is never at a loss for words.
It has been a long time since anything from Leon and Mebbie Eckhoff has been reported. They are both still kicking and very much around. Saturday they attended a wedding reception held at the Robert Lee Hall for Holly Shalon Waldopt and Blake Hornbeck in the big city of Robert Lee. It was the first time for Mebbie to be in Robert Lee. She has been all around the place, but never ventured there.

Received an update on R.J.’s trip to California and visitors: RJ went to San Diego last Saturday after the Henniger reunion, and stayed until Wednesday, Aug. 18. He was able to see all of Jill’s 11 children, helped Jill set up a chicken house with 25 baby chicks, and planted a small garden. They seem none the worse for his visit.
