Thursday, August 26, 2010 • Posted August 26, 2010

Are you ready? … I said ARE YOU READY??? Two-a-days are over, scrimmages done. That can only mean one thing. ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL??? A regular Friday night party!!

This Friday opens the 2010 season for the San Saba Armadillos. The opponent is the Ballinger Bearcats in Ballinger. The Bearcats have won the last 7 meetings.

San Saba is considered one of the top 2A division 2 schools in the state. Depending on which poll a person looks at, the Dillos are ranked anywhere from #15 to #1.

The non-district schedule will be a good test for the rankings. After Ballinger, San Saba hosts the top-ranked Eagles from Goldthwaite before traveling to another highly-rated squad in Wall.

A home game against Hamilton precedes another long trip to the rising Viking squad in Lago Vista.

The Armadillos have their open week before district play begins with a Homecoming game against the Longhorns of Harper. Harper is considered one of the favorites to win District 13. Another favorite is the Sonora Broncos, the team San Saba travels to the following week.

A home game with the Coleman Bluecats is followed by the longest road trip of the year to Ozona for a game with the Lions. The regular season closes out with a game against the Junction Eagles.

The playoffs are next and the format is different than previous years when 3 schools qualified. The district winner gets a bye in the first round, like in basketball. The second place team goes to one side of the regional bracket and the 3rd place team is in the same side as the winner.

Come to Ballinger and support the Armadillos to the district championship and a deep playoff run to the state title.
