City Council waives/amends City Ordinances

he San Saba City Council met on Tuesday, August 10th at 6 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers. Mayor Ken Jordan called the meeting to order and announced a quorum. Councilman Marvin Riggs gave the invocation followed by everyone joining for the pledges to the American and Texas flags.

The Employee of the Month award was presented to Bob Twibler by Wayne Yarbrough and Scott Glaze. Bob is employed with the Water Department and will receive a gift certificate and a day off with pay. His name was engraved on the Employee of the Month plaque.

The Supervisor of the Quarter was awarded to Weldon Harrell, Jr. who has been a City employee for almost 15 years. His name will be added to the Supervisor of the Quarter plaque and Junior will receive a gift certificate at a local restaurant and a day off with pay.

Larry Alderson, Electric Department Supervisor, introduced new employees to the electric department, Derrick Pusser and G. T. Meador.

The following items were approved by the Council:

1. Minutes from the July 13th, 20th, 26th, and 27th Council meetings.

2. Payment of bills presented to Council.

3. Resolution No. 2010-25 to waive noise ordinance on September 18th at the Gazebo at Mill Pond Park.

4. Resolution No. 2010-26 to waive noise ordinance on September 4th at the Gazebo at Mill Pond Park.

5. Resolution No. 2010-27 to waive noise ordinance on September 4th at the Pavilion at Risien Park.

Action was taken on the following items:

A. After discussion, approved Ordinance No. 2010-09 amending ordinance No. 2009-13 specifying "Exhibit A" fee schedule for certain city services.

B. Approved rate increase of $.09 per 1,000 gallons of water for the North San Saba Water Supply Corp.

C. Discusssed Tax Rate for 2010 and proposed 2010-2011 budget items that includes an increase based on higher tax appraisal. A public hearing is scheduled for August 24, 2010.

City Manager, Stan Weik reported on the following:

a. Went over a list of improvements and accomplishments of the year.

b. Mesquite Fuels is still moving forward and hope to announce the location for their plant very soon.

c. Installation of window film at City Hall.

d. Replaced the A/C at the City owned building rented to the video store.

Tony Guidroz, Economic Development, reported that the Alco store is expected to open on October 14th. Guidroz reminded

everyone to attend the Street Dance on October 9th.

City Secretary, Gale Ivy is now a Texas Registered Municipal Clerk after completing a two-year certification program.

Scott Glaze, Public Works Director, showed a video featuring the following: Improvements required by the state on restrooms at Risien Park; Pecan Street repaved; parking lot work and new sign at Golf Course; work at Mill Pond Park and Garden Club; had some prisoners help filling in and ground work at Risien Park; one of the nine houses was shown being torn down.

Mayor Jordan adjourned the meeting. Council members attending the meeting were: Martha Leigh Whitten, Marvin Riggs, Charlie Peeler, Shawn Oliver; Mayor Ken Jordan; City employees, Stan Weik, Gale Ivy, Charlene Lindsay, Susie Jiminez, Sabrina Maultsby, Scott Glaze, Tony Guidroz, Wayne Yarbrough, Larry Alderson, Al Hamrick, Junior Harrel, Bob Twibler, Derrick Pusser, G.T.
