One killed, two injured in accident

One man was killed, and two others were injured in a head-on collision seven miles south of San Saba Monday afternoon.

Steven Spears, 54, of San Saba was driving a 1996 Geo Metro south on Hwy. 16 when his vehicle veered into the northbound lanes and collided with a 1997 Dodge Ram pickup driven by Travis Corsi, 21, of Cherokee. Fred Broyles, 51, also of Cherokee, was a passenger in the Dodge Ram.

The accident occurred at approximately 4:45 P.M. Spears was pronounced dead at the scene by San Saba Justice of the Peace Les Dawson. Corsi was taken to Llano Memorial Hospital, and Broyles was transported to University Medical Center Brackenridge in Austin. Both men sustained internal injuries.

Spears was wearing his seat belt at the time of the accident. Corsi and Broyles were not wearing seat belts.

Spears worked as a child advocate casework supervisor for CASA of the Highland Lakes.

Services for Spears are pending at Howell-Doran Funeral Home in San Saba.
