Petty Officer 3

rd Class John Paul Dretke, son of Tai and Mike Alberts of San Saba, David and Michelle Dretke of San Antonio, and grandson of Dixie Hewitt, San Saba, recently received the "Dolphin Pin," or Submarine Warfare Insignia, while on board the submarine, Henry M. Jackson. Qualifications for the Dolphin Award are successful completion of tests of knowledge of the various systems of the submarine. These include basic knowledge of all systems on board, including torpedo and tactile missile fire control systems and ballistic missile fire control systems, their uses, operations and interrelationship with other systems; and to ensure that the submarine sailor can effectively operate under pressure in shipboard situations. Submarine damage control techniques are stressed throughout the qualification process. Dretke, a 2007 graduate of San Saba High School, entered the US Navy in June, 2008. He is stationed at Naval Kitsap Base-Bangor, Silverdale, WA.
