San Saba ISD School Board holds regular scheduled meeting

The Board of Trustees of San Saba ISD met on Monday, August 16th at 6 p.m. in the Central Administration Office. President of the Board, Darrin Barker, called the meeting to order and gave the invocation followed by everyone joining for the pledges to the American and Texas flags.

Superintendent Leigh Ann Glaze gave the following information:

1. Gave season reserved seating football tickets to Board Members. Board Members will also receive two tickets each for District passes from Atheletic Director, Jeff Pannell.

2. The September School Board meeting will be September 13th at 6 p.m. and the final budget meeting is set for August 30th, 12 noon.

3. San Saba ISD did not qualify for the T3 Grant.

4. San Saba ISD will implement the ECHS (Early College High School) program starting with 9th grade, dual credit, associate degree.

5. All Summer Maintenance projects have been completed with some prisoners helping with fencing at the bus barn.

6. A Campus Improvement Team will be implemented to help teachers.

The Board approved the following agenda:

A. Regular minutes and Executive Session minutes from July 19th and Special Budget Workshop minutes from July 19th.

B. Amended 2009-2010 budget as needed.

C. Allowed and paid bills.

D. Financial Report as presented.

E. Accepted Donations.

F. Student Transfers for the 2010-2011 School Year as listed.

Assistant Superintendent, Michael Bohensky, distributed the AEIS (Academic Excellent Indicator System) reports with Campus rankings as of May 2010 and discussed 2011 projectives.On Wednesday, August 18th Bohensky will go over this report with each campus teacher. District ratings were also discussed. CSCOPE material has been distributed to teachers. Bohensky attended a CSCOPE Swap last week and it will be helpful to the program.

Middle School Principal, Vicki Key, reported the following: Their first campus meeting for teachers pertained to scheduling, CSCOPE, and laptop usage; Meet the Dillos has been scheduled; September 10th will be the first football game with Wall; no number of students at this time, but was expecting some transfers in and out; teaching assignments are in place and they are getting ready, planning, and organizing.

Elementary School Principal, Kay Shackleford, expects around 295 students, not including the Headstart; Thursday, August 19th has been scheduled to meet with staff and will be implementing some changes so that students come to their full potential, building relationships with students and parents. Community outreach and retired teachers have plans to be involved and will be very helpful.

The Board took action on the following items:

a. Approved annual telephone retainer with Schwartz and Eichelbaum for $750 per year for legal advise and other issues by telephone.

b. No action was taken on the request that a historical site be dismissed of property taxes because of lack of information and documentation.

c. A Sub-Committee was selected to inform the public regarding the information they will need about the Qualified School Construction Bond awarded to SSISD. The Sub-Committee members are Marcie Maxcey, Kevin Shahan and Kim Kirk.

d. SSISD received replies from Richland Springs and Cherokee regarding the use of the Track for practise and track meets and fees; the Board approved the Facility Use fee schedules for all facilities for comprehensive use.

e. The Staff Handbooks are not available at this time to be reviewed.

President Darrin Barker adjourned the meeting, announcing a short break before the Executive Session. No action was taken during the Executive Session.
