SSHS Alumni Association's Third Annual Golf Tournament held May 17th
Thursday, May 22, 2008 • Posted May 22, 2008

The San Saba High School Alumni Association held it’s third annual golf tournament May 17, 2008 with approximately thirty players participating. The Association would like to make this an annual event that you will mark on your calendar and perhaps plan your class reunions around this date. The annual meeting was held at the Elementary Cafeteria that morning with the fun golf tournament following in the afternoon. After the golf, there was a fish fry catered by Betty Ann Johnson and her crew that was delicious and music for dancing. John Reavis and Anita Miles are the co-chairs for this event and have been winners for the last two years. This year they got the boot!

First Place with an incredible, almost questionable, score of 59 (thirteen birdies) was the team of Mike Ivy, the Sterner girls, Debbie Lee and Kay Barclay, Mike Connors, and Roy Woodward. They had a blast! The word I got was they couldn’t miss a putt!

Second Place went to the team of Erby Valdez, Tina Harvell, Rick Baskin, and Don Riggs with a respectable 63!

Four prizes were given for closest to the pin on the par threes. Those winners were Mike Ivy, Rick Baskin, David Parker (that’s a surprise), and Bari McGivray (and she was thrilled!).

The only disparaging remark was made by Jimmy Shahan when he said, “Well, at least I beat Anita Miles.” As you can see, this was strictly a fun tournament and if you didn’t participate you missed a really good time. Make plans to attend next year. You do not have to be an alumni to participate and you can bring your own team of folks you enjoy playing with.

Other teams participating were:

Jimmy Shahan, Nathan Shahan, Stephen Shahan, Travis Long, and Clayton Long; David Potts, Anita Miles, Dane Mahan, Jerry Minter, and Eddie Edwards; Gregg Jackson, Rose Jackson, Tommy McGivray, Bari McGivray, and Tony Cantu; John Reavis, Kade Riley, David Parker, Keith Shahan, and Ralph Cox.

We had a little rain and some had to rush to town for the Senior Prom promenade and other conflicts but none of this dampened the enthusiasm of the fellowship of a fun golf tournament that you don’t want to miss next year!
