The San Saba Ladies Golf Association met August 5, 2010 and were surprised by the big machinery in the parking lot preparing for paving of the parking lot! This has been a dream for Larry Hardin for years and he and Becky donated half of the cost of the materials which was met by the young business men of San Saba and the City of San Saba will do the labor. It will certainly enhance the appearance of the San Saba River Golf Course and we should all be appreciative of these generous donations. Thanks to all of these special people! San Saba is blessed with civic minded folks!
The monthly business meeting opened with prayer led by Hattie Rogers. The President, Anita Miles, called the meeting to order and in the absence of the Secretary, Jo Anne Hardy, Hattie Rogers read the minutes. They were approved with the correction of Hattie Rogers being present at the July meeting. The Treasurer, Bobbie Churchill, was absent so there was no financial report.
The Traveling 4-Ball Chair, Sandee Hartley, reported that the Traveling 4-Ball for August will be in Delaware Springs on August 18, 2010.
All of the members were reminded of their duties for the Fall Four Lady Tournament scheduled for September 11, 2010.
All ladies are asked to work at the concession stand on the weekend of August 21-22, 2010.
There was a discussion on the possibility of the San Saba Ladies hosting a Cancer Fund raiser but due to our small number it was decided to just give a generous donation.
The ladies adjourned for play with the Chair for August, Anita Miles, calling for a grudge rematch of Best Ball Scramble. Her team was defeated the previous month, but how sweet it is, that revenge. Anita’s team of Hattie Rogers, Jo Ann Snow, and Dorothy Sterner shot a scorching 70, scoring four birdies and an eagle! Hattie chipped in for one of the birdies and Anita chipped in for the eagle, and they split the chip in pot with their teammates. The defeated team was Sandee Hartley, Becky Hardin, and Janet Hoyt; and they got an extra shot as a blind partner. The temperature soared but the ladies had a fun time in the sun! After play it was party time! Old members of the Golf Association, actually Bette is still a member of the Ladies Association, Bette and Travis Odom from Hamilton, Texas, joined the ladies for lunch and visiting. Bobbie and Frank Churchill joined in for the festivities. We were having such a good time Becky’s husband, Larry, and Sandee’s husband, Jim, also had lunch with the ladies. And last but not least Will Adams showed up!
We were stressed to learn that Bobbie has fallen and broken a bone in her foot. This will set her back on her goal of returning to the links! It was good to have Becky back as she has been absent for several play days.
July 29, 2010 the Chair, Sandee Hartley, called for a game of Six, Six, Six, team play where you play the first six holes as best ball, the second six as a Scotch twosome, and the third six holes a low ball score, at the regular play day event. The team of Sandee Hartley, Kay Barclay, Hattie Rogers, and Jo Anne Hardy defeated the team of Anita Miles, Dorothy Sterner, Janet Hoyt, and Ailene Roberts. Ailene and Janet, two of our newer members, had a great day hitting some beautiful shots. They have been a real addition to the association.
The heat is almost unbearable but not quite, so we just keep on ‘swinging’!
