San Saba Nursing Home celebrates National Nursing Home Week-May 11th-17th
Thursday, May 22, 2008 • Posted May 22, 2008

On Sunday, May 11th, San Saba Nursing Home residents, their family members, and nursing home staff kicked off the week long festivities with a balloon send-off at the home. Along with kicking off National Nursing Home Week, they also celebrated Mother's Day. They released 50 balloons which were a variety of beautiful pastel colors. The nursing home staff and residents would like to thank The Flower Garden for donating the helium to air the balloons.

Next, on Tuesday the 13th, residents participated in a special Bingo game. They were given prizes ranging from Sonic gift cards to perfumes and colognes, and lots more. Everyone who participated had a joyful time.

Then on Wednesday, the San Saba Nursing Home held a reception to honor their volunteers who go out of their way to lend a hand. Juanita Longley, Vice-President of the Residents' Council, welcomed guests and handed out a special gift to each one.

There was a table full of mouthwatering dishes including a very delicious homemade chicken salad served with croissants, a variety of honeydew and cantaloupe balls, a carved watermelon holding melon balls, and green and red grapes garnished a beautiful crystal bowl. A sweet cream cheese and powdered sugar dip for the fruit, along with strawberries and kiwis, towered over the table on a two-tiered serving platter. Sugar and chocolate chip cookies were also available. Beverages included tea and water. Everyone enjoyed the delicious foods and friendly company.

Finally, on Thursday, May 15th, the nursing home provided a hamburger cookout with "inviting a friend for lunch" theme. Attending this event were residents and their families, as well as staff members. Hamburgers were served with all the trimmings and a slice of juicy watermelon for dessert. This was a great ending to a perfect week of celebration.

The San Saba Nursing Home has been celebrating National Nursing Home Week for many years. They feel blessed to still continue on and hope that each year more of the community will participate in this special annual celebration. Thanks to all who helped out in any way.
