Highland Lakes Honor Guard to present Memorial Day program in Kingsland
Thursday, May 22, 2008 • Posted May 22, 2008

All across America, people of all ages are seeking ways to express their support for those ideals and values on which our country was founded. What better way to accomplish this than for you and your family to attend a Memorial Day program held in your local community? During these uncertain times it can serve as an inspiration for children especially to learn of the importance of Memorial Day and the sacrifices made by our brave soldiers, sailors and marines who fought and died for us so that we may live in a free country.

To recognize and honor those courageous men and women who sacrificed so much for the freedoms we now enjoy, the Highland Lakes Honor Guard will hold a Memorial Day commemorative program at the Kingsland Community Center on Monday, May 26, at 10:30 a.m. This is free to the public – all are welcome and encouraged to attend. The Kingsland Community Center is located one block in from Highway 1431 near the Kingsland Care Center.

The Memorial Day guest speaker is Llano County Judge Wayne A. Brascom, who will present a special proclamation on behalf of the County of Llano.

Music will be provided by the Hill Country Community Band. The band is an acclaimed musical group that has made many public appearances at various community functions throughout Burnet and Llano County. They are composed of school teachers, businessmen, students, professional men and women and anyone else having a love and talent for playing concert band music. They are all volunteers who enthusiastically give their time and talent to make our community a better place to live – through music.

Special presentations will be made on the history and meaning of the Pledge of Allegiance and the National Anthem as well as a simulated Battlefield Memorial ceremony honoring all those who made the supreme sacrifice on our country’s behalf. All gave some…some gave all.

The Highland Lakes Honor Guard is the only civilian honor guard in Burnet and Llano County that is certified by the Department of Defense as Authorized Providers to render military funeral honors.

This is an event you won’t want to miss and is a wonderful opportunity to share your country’s traditions and heritage with your children and their children’s children.
